View Full Version : Gotta try and make this fit

thanks to Choppa i got his front end.

now i just gotta make it fit the 7/11 triple trees

looks like the difference is mostly the centre distances of the forks as the K4 is about 5mm narrower. This isn't such a problem as i will have to machine up a couple of 2.5mm axle spacers and space the discs out 2.5mm.

add a new set of longer braided brake lines and i am in business

Taking no chances with that chain mate? Looks like someone nicked the rest of the bike. Is the stem long enough? ...and what diametre are the forks at the top and bottom clamps?

chain was just to stop it form rolling away form the wall.

the forks are the same dia as the originals 54bot 50top so i will be using the standard 94mod triples.

had the forks spun with a dial indicator and found that both uppers are slightly bent.

off to BME for a straighten, new fork seals, new wiper seal to replace the damaged one and they will also roll out the dent in the lower of the outer tube

the other thing i forgot to take into account with widening this front end 5mm to make it fit is that the mudguard will have to be pulled out at the mounting points by 5mm.

will see how this goes.

Ok

the for dia are the same 50 adn 54mm

the offset is different 214 and 207mm

the off set is different 35 and 32mm

was planning to use the old triples but will now wait for the billet triples to be built.

i ran into Katana Kev at the SBK (yellow and blue kat with single sider) and he had a K2 front end on his sligshot. this was the same offset and spacings as the K4.

all he did to fit it was press out the stem and machine the top bearing set down from 30mm to 25mm. the stem is alloy and bloody thick. he then welded a small piece of steel to the front of the lower triple and that was his new steering stop. adn ground off the old K2 ones.

if you go to OSS and the W/cooled section look for Top Yokes topic and that will give you some info.

yes maybe for sale.

are they solid?
going to be heavy!!!

have you seen some of the ones that have the bolts more hidden
still a lot of those need to have holes tapped into aluminium which can be a pain once you put stainless bolts in there

if you send me a drawing i could get a local place to quote em up for ya

i have a set of gsxr750 USD forks and triple-clamps here
how tricky would that be to put on the Kat?? if its just a matter of different bearings that would be sweet!!

Not solid they will be releived a bit but the difference will probably be only a kilo or so difference in weight and if i want to save a kilo off the bike i will only fill the fuel tank to half full instead of completely full and take a shit before i go for a ride.

machinist is all sorted.

not sure about the 750 usd bit vut should fit ok as it has all been done before

Fimp. The last thing you said about the Kat was "Right, it's done, on with the Tiller". Well that didn't last long did it mate? Now you're looking at fork conversions for it!

crazy

what part do you want photos of.

the K series damper is shorter than the W series.

the w mounts under the triple and points forward and the K series mounts sideways.

Nah mate. that photo was taken the day before we left for fools run.
i have been lazy in putting that photo up
i was planning to have it all on for that but the guy that pressed in the steering stem didn't press it in far enough so i couldn't run the new front end in time for the fools run. i wanted to put it all together still to see if i would have any problems.

and don't worry those blue brake lines arnt staying
