I'm looking for a turbo system for my 1100 slabby, now like most of you guys i cant just splash out the cash for a new setup, so i'm thinking of collecting parts as i go, a few guys here have turbo experience, what type and or name should i be on the lookout for? on sites like egay and the like, i figure once i have the main components i can spend on new parts like boost controllers and so on.
fuck that was a long winded question:)
anyways, cheers fellas, gixkat.

I will suggest strongly right up front that you go straight for fuel injection.

If you want to spend the first six months pulling the carbs apart and putting them back together again, then go ahead and use them (after modifying) but I reckon you should follow Deano's idea of jamming GSXR1000 throttle bodies in the holes and finding a computer to run them rather than battling with CV carbs. (how's that coming anyway Deano ?)

If I was starting again, that's what I'd do.
In fact, I'd just use the whole GSXR1000 !

Yeah, fuel injection is the go.

I did excactly the way your think'n of, over a period of about 10 months, I bought bits and pieces until I had what I thought was needed to do the job. As it turned out there was still hundreds of dollars of last minute parts I needed to get and not to mention the parts that you just can't get hold of and have to make when you want an injected turbo GS 500. If I was to do it again, and a kit was available I think I would spent the 10 months saving up for it and two days installing it.

I've looked at this before and Evad (dave) reckons it definitely not bad for a tinkerer even if they haven't used electronics before.

Hope I'm quoting you right there Dave ;)

Not that I want to hijack qixkats thread but what size turbo would you need to for a 1200?[?][:I]

GT28r is commonly used on the zx12, probably net you ~300hp if decompressed to take 12-14 psi, stock pistons are not forged like the busa so you have to be more careful , also a bugger to seal the frame,

I've just visited Joe Marshall on Wednesday morning to see about my motor build, he is toying around with some big-arsed turbo with an SU carby on the suck side, around $1500.... he also is building up a twin turbo Kat... amongst other things.. He has some very tasty bikes there...

Cheers

used to be a couple of places in the US that built kits for the Blades but not seen much lately , Check with Brett, he is part way thru a R1 kit now.

Yep that Brett, he would be the most experianced in Aust on your bike
Headers and plenum are not hard (time consuming though)to make but you need the bike to do them.

That was for the turbo and SU carby, manifolds etc... From memory, it was going on a bandit with a big-arse bore kit in it... Joe Marshall style... I'm very tempted to do same with my build....
