Hi,
I am new to this forum, but I am putting together a streetfighter and I need some advice. I need som suggestions for an inexpensive tach to use on my fzr100 so I can get rid of that bulky stock one. I looked around for something similar to a tiny tach but none of them seem to work for 4 cylinder engines. Give me some ideas
Thanks
Lucas

If ur not after a digital tacho then the best would be a thin profile mini autometer tach.

why do ya need a tacho, when it hits the rev limiter, its time to shift.

Jb imports in sydney do the Daytona ones,
The tachos available at car shops only seem to go up to about 8 grand.
You may be able to remount your existing one into a smaller case.
On the gsxr the tacho is a replaceable unit inside the case, yours might be the same.
Or go lowtek with a series of leds like I had in my old Mazda 929.

I 've got a set of datatool revlights on my gixer, bought 'em on ebay a while ago for about $120. They light up sequentially (like a tacho) or all at once. See if qickdraw(an asf member) sells 'em, or contact motofx.

Thanks for the ideas so far guys. I did look into the datatool RevLight, and it seems feasible. However I could not get this link to open http://www.daytona.co.jp/export/index.html
Give me more ideas if you have them. Trying to make the fighter clean but not spend too much money doing it. Veypor looks cool but out of my price range.

does the fazer1000 have digital speed/rev meters? if so then maybe you could just use meters from another bike. like the ones on a SV 650 or the zx10r zx6r z1000. Just an idea, i used the meters from a zx10r on my project. Won't work if it is cable driven.

Does no one else have ny more ideas on this subject? I thought there would be plenty of ideas out there with as many of you that made streetfighters.

I went through this same process when I was trying to find instuments for the Bandito, I looked all over the world for WEEKS. Here is my best advice based on my experience. Go into your local motorcycle dealer (doesnt matter which one) and ask to have a look at their MCS cataloug. If they dont have one go to another shop, you wont have to try too many before you find one. MCS have a range of beautifull minature instruments all billet alloy with nice looking features and they are well priced. I paid $180 for my speedo unit and it has all the legal stuff in it. Speedo, turn sigs and high low beam. Comes with all wiring (but no cable if you need one). The tacho is a matching unit and again its very nice looking. I dont have a pic sorry coz mine is still sitting in a box not fitted yet.

Failing that your best bet is to go to Ebay UK (ebay.co.uk) and search for "streetfighter" you will find several digital and analoug setups for sale, just make sure you pick one with KMH as well as MPH or you wont be legal ;) of course for just a tacho it wont matter. But in case you want a matching pair...

Make sure you go look at the MCS cataloug first though. MCS wont deal with Joe Public, only bike stores, so you will have to get them to order it for you. But Id say MCS is the best kept secret in Australian bike parts. Their Cattledog is HUGE and has LOTS of stuff in it. I got my indicators, fighter dual headlights, instruments, bandit rear light assembly and a couple of other bits all for less than I expected to pay. Check it out!;)

Thanks again

Yes the Mychron MRP is just Tacho and engine hour meter in the background.

It does 2 or 4 stroke and 20,000 rpm

You have to turn it on and off yourself and it runs little batteries (you could modify it to run off the bike's power)

Still about $200 Ausy dollars though

g'day,
I'm a new member but have been reading for a while.
A few years ago I fightered a TL1000S and I used a Go-Kart Tacho. Battery powered and clipped onto the number one spark plug lead. It turned on when it sensed spark and turned off after a period of inactivity. I don't recall the brand but it worked a treat and was around AU$130. I think most Go-Kart stores would have access to something similar.
Hope it gives you some ideas.
