Always wanted to try a bigger air box on the old girl.

I got hold of a QB Carbon airbox base for a K3 Model.

It fits under the throttles and uses the underside of the fuel tank as the lid of the airbox.

It's a challenge to seal it and it doesn't have an air filter fitted for the race bikes so I have to make my own.

It's not an easy fit and it's a pain in the ass to work on now but........

Holly Crap it's worth it.

I'm not sure it'd be worth it on a stock motor but a worked motor loves it.

The engine is sooooo much happier. It's smoother. It has more torque right from down low and it makes power WAY faster.

I honestly didn't think it'd make much difference so I'm very plesantly supprised.

Pics....

Stock air box setup and then some progress ones ....;)

So how did you get the seal on the tank? Have you tried it on the dyno to actually see the difference? ........by the way, did you weigh it first mate?

looks tits mate, equal velocity stacks says it all. What would the replacement value be for your bike Stocky (if ya dont mind me askin).

Replacement would be around 60

The seal is on the underside of the tank.

I'll dyno it once it's all re tunned etc.

And , yes I did weigh it.

I've lost a bit over 1Kg with this setup compared to the stock air box and filter etc :D

Be interesting to see the difference tuned if you notice a big change untuned :)

once your up to speed if its sealed prperly its ram air, i dont think you will see any difference with the correct tune, it might be running better as its leaned it out.

What ?

It was tunned properly before the change of air box so there will be no gains from an A/F ratio difference.

The new air box will have a very different resonance to the old one and far less pressure drop so the tunning will probably be off somewhere if not all over the place.

I spent all day today hooking up the Data logger again.

I'll log A/F , Throttle Pos and RPM for the ride to work and back tomorrow and see if it's out by much anywhere.

Got some different stacks to test too.

very cool! you should definately see a difference, if not with the different resonance, just the amount of air volume dedicated to the carbs. Where are you running your intake too? I know there are ducts through the frame, i wasnt sure if you were going to utilize ram air effect or just have open intake to the air box,

This ones not a "fighter" so it's got full Ram Air

Got some more done on the stacks.

Tried some custom Dual Stacks, the big ones didn't work. They weren't as good as the simple short ones.

I'll try the 2nd setup(pic) tomorrow and see if they are any good.

They just seem to like shorter and shorter.

Might lob 5mm off them and try them even shorter.
