I was lucky enough to meet Ian when he was building the Diamond Missile. I was in awe of the mans skill and knowledge. I learned more about building bikes in the 20 minutes I talked to him than I did in the next 2 years combined. At the time of his death I was raising finance to get an FJ1200 frame off him. His death was a shock and having barely known the man even i realised that the custom motorcycle community lost one of it's best ever builders. To put it in terms even Davo will understand- Notts Custom Cycle frames are to the Jap Chopper world what Spondon is to the Streetfighter world. They are the best quality frames bar none. The bike is worth it funnily enough and if I had the dosh I'd get it. For people like me it's the stuff of dreams.

Yeah dont get me wrong... I can certainly appreciate the work... I guess its just not my style, would have been a better way of putting it.

His work is like Spondons in this regard. When you see it in pictures it looks good, when you see it in the flesh and see first hand the craftsmanship you are blown away. There are few bikes that have had that effect on me. A Spondon GSX1100, several Notts Customs bikes, a V12 Jag Trike the Chris Ireland did, A rigid GSXR that Blackjack Customs did, the reverse head GSX1100 that Twizzle did and an Egli Vincent.

I actualy met Ian K a couple of times when I was staying with a mate at Nottingham, didnt realise who he was till a while later when I was reading BSH and the penny dropped.
Chris Ireland (desperate Dan :D) is a legend [8D] I never met him though, :( I think it all got a bit much for him, and he stepped back from the scene, I was told he has now restored / chopped the old HD45 that he used to use as a Rat ? I remember his Jag V12 trike though.
Twizzle !! Jeeeez, if anyone pushed the boundery of idea's it was him. I have never see a bike of his I wanted, and yet EVERYTHING he builds you can't help but be amazed by.
The other name I havent seen for a while is "Odgie"
(Ian Hodge) used to be editor of BSH then started AWOL and went
off to do "Grey Bike" magazine. We both bought our Sportys at the same weekend when he worked for HOG magazine.

Pack it in Chop, im starting to feel old ;)
:D:D:D

Small world. I regularly get advise from Chrid Ireland on another board and occasionally get to pick Twizzles demented brain as well. Blackjack is an old mate of mine as well. The Sidevalve Chris has been working on for the last 20 odd years is an Army Indian Scout(a 741 model I think) It has 45 Harley stretched forks. A former workmate of mine was in the States and got legless with Clink from BSH at a rather odd sports bike drag racing weekend were there where about 30 white people there and about 6000 negroes & latinos. Almost all fast Jappa's ridden mostly by black fellas. Most odd. I know the bloke that ended up with the Jag V12 and thats were I know it from. We got up to 180MPH on the M25 with me on the back. Farrrrkkkk me but it was fun. Never again but it was fun. I don't know what happened to Odgie but I know Blue is as big a bitch as ever and I can say regret nothing in that regard.
