So Suzuki, Kawasaki, Honda, Yamaha, Benelli, Ducati, Buell, MV and KTM have got it all wrong after spending millions on R&D and sweary Bob gets it right after spending a few thousand pounds? Yeah right. Spondons/Harris/Martek/Steelheart are for looks only compared to the current model frames, im sure they do make better frames today than were avalible 10 years ago but they dont make better frames than you can buy with current model bikes. But maybe Suzuki, Honda etc have got it all wrong, i doubt it tho.

Sometime in the past year, I read a bit by "Kash" in Two Wheels about how modern bike frames are made with the assistance of FEA* and how the custom frame builders can't hope to match that technology without investing millions of $$$. Be fucked if I can find it in my magazine mountain...

I'd still like a Spondon though :)

Well,
we all know how good the modern sportbike frame are. Point beeing?

I think there will be always a market for the likes of Spondon, Harris and PPS/ Rau. Even without little squares all over the frame when they getting developed. One reason is exactly that!
The word I am looking for is good old craftesmensship. Why do people are getting furniture handmade? When they can have CAD/ CNC made cupboards? Because it is ordenary! And not exactly the way they want it. Would you call them excentric because of that?
Blink Factor:
And I repeat myself, for the last time. For me there is currently no V-Twin on the market which I would prefer to a Spondon with a TL in it.
Maybe a Spondon with a Busa or a XX 1100 engine would be a alternative for me.
Does Suzuki has a 182KG WET Weight, well handling Hayabusa? Answer No! But, Spondon has. Why Suzuki has'nt got one? Because they can not possibly build every bikes possible due to corperate interests. But Bob can! Get it?

Have we not been through this before?
I take Ash's advise, don't worry and be happy.

Have a good week

For fucks sake can't you blokes work it out.... How about this, maybe 10 - 15 years ago a $pondon frame bettered an elastic jap frame. And now (2006) the factory frames match or better a $pondon frame other than looks....

1. Can a $spondon frame match a high tech jap frame of today in performance ?? Answer No....

2. Can a jap frame look as good as a $pondon frame ?? Answer No....

Maybe Ozkat should re-word his question, kind off way too broad to be answered easily.

Although what the fuck do I know.....

Cheers Rich

I think some people are missing the point a little. To build and own a Spondon is an experience, it doesn't matter what technology the bike manufacturers use to build a frame it most certainly will not spell the end of the people like Spondon. Almost all modern frames look generic and very very ordinary. The new 675 Triumph has the best looking frame available on a production bike.
A well set up Spondon will certainly be the equal of a modern bike handling wise and will look 1000 times better.
If you want one then buy one, if not then don't. :D

Ash,
I totally agree with you. In particular, that they are on the same standard, performance wise, than the modern bikes.

And Stevo: YOU GOT IT! I did not want to write in the way you did. Your answer is surtenly more straight forward. [^]
A Bimota, that shows me you've got taste.

Stevo,
you still want one? I may can help out. There are two in the Perth bikeshops. One is a SB you know, the one with the TL in it. But not cheap. This one is at Rick Gill Motorcycle in Osbourne Park, WA.
And the other one mmhh, I think it has got a 1000 Yamaha engine in it (Thunderace? I am not sure). It will not sell! I think just because people do'nt know what they are looking at.... If you are keen I can find out ( I'll fly out tomorrow morning, for two weeks of work, though).
Or, the shop is called All Bikes in Fremantle, WA. I reckon, it's worth a call. It looks mint.

So, you've been fucking around with bikes like that, eyh! Big respect!

Where did you find that poster? It's a pearler!!! I love it....

meh fuck it lol.

some goose wants to blow 75k on a MV f41 turmbelini-thingy-majig. thats his problem if he drops it.

some clown wants to blow 30k on building a spondon, his problem if he drops it.

some fool want to blow 18k on a cbgsxrr1. again. his problem if he drops it.

this fuckwit named joe, blows 12k on building a bike thats weird and unique, just like the first 2 examples, its my problem if i drop it.

till any of these bikes get dropped, i say live and let live, as long as we are all on 2 wheels and having fun, who bloody cares if it cost too much, just as long as the jackass riding it is enjoying it, it becomes a waste of money when its stacked and rooted i say.

cheers.joe.

Got too many toys at the moment Frankie ...

Need to consolidate a few and finish some projects off before I go buyin anymore :(

The one with the yammie engine is a YB but I can't remember the model that had the early thou in it...

WIth Bimota's the first letter is the donor motor ... YB = Yamaha ... DB= Ducati Bimota .. SB = Suzuki Bimota

They've re released the Tesi as well .. looks sharp as ... I think they have a new Duc twin plug motor in it...

There was one on ebay a while ago a YB6 I think or SB6 can't remember.... went cheap too .. was owned by James Packer I think or someone flash anyway... they metioned who it was but I didn't give a shit...

The welding and engineering on them is superb...

can't remember where i got that poster but I had ta save it as it's pearler

Yup Joe ... it's whatever floats ya boat .. and the only thing stoppin me from havin more toys is the $$$$$$

Yeah, the bloody priority's...

There are two German fellows who are keeping Bimota alive... You still get the YB 11 new.....

http://www.bimota.de/#

@ Joe: Too right it is only money. Some people spend it on this, others on that. No need for beeing jealous. (I am not saying you are!)
It only would be a waste of money, if that bike would only stand in the gamesroom for squirting over it...
And when you drop it, you build something else, so what?
Still, this is a Streetfighter forum.
People spending big $ on these things. If one does'nt understand, than get yourself a beemer and join a different forum.

Geez.... I never shit canned the Spondon frame, like everyone else on this forum, including Ozkat we'd give our left nut to have one. The Spondon frame is a rolling combination of metal and art.

I argue that a hand made tube frame can't match the performance of the high tech frame produced from Jap Land. A debate is supposed to argue the pro's and cons of any topic. I threw out a con in this topic.

Frankie, if a mass produced bike can't accomplish the mission required by yourself in a bike and a Spondon can, three cheers for Spondon. Naturally the more exculsive the frame, or the limited numbers produced from a factory the more dollars it costs. We all except this.

Many can say I have over priced toys in the shed, I don't give a rats because they're what I want. I don't even get my back up when someone says it's so.

The rest of you seem to be all agreeing the same thing and then throwing in the handling aspect of the frame again! Who threw that in? We already agreed that aspect of Spondon frames is now a part of history. I've spent money on bikes that handled like pigs (like my old z650 for example years ago) but it made me smile, looked like I'd done fuck all to it apart from paint it matt black, but that's all I needed: the smile. The day you get off your bike and don't give it one look before you walk away from it is the day you should sell it.

I've spent money on bikes that handled like pigs (like my old z650 for example years ago) but it made me smile, looked like I'd done fuck all to it apart from paint it matt black, but that's all I needed: the smile. The day you get off your bike and don't give it one look before you walk away from it is the day you should sell it.

hmmm, i am buying a polygon engineering frame,

why? i hear you ask

a. no one else makes frames for my zrx in the style that i require

and

b. because i can,

it is no better (engineering wise) than my stock frame, but so what, my led blinkers are no better than the stock ones, the stainless bolt replacements are no better at holding the bike together than the stock ones.

why do we change them? because we can and we want to,

THIS is the spirit of the streetfighter. changing things because you CAN, NOT because you have to.

Whilst I was in the Army I spent money on things, things and more things.... some bikes I could afford were a few GSXRs H model, M model, a few chook chasers, a VTR and some substances many and varied!!! ( maybe thats why they asked me to find a new career, hahaha) Now my new(old) career allows me to choose from a large pool of bikes and parts... yet still I like to build some parts myself, because I can......DEC 06- Spondon- my plan to come back to OZ through UK with no luggage and my frame in over size baggage... then use the frame number of my BUSA frame and plate...( cause my limted dealings with engineers in NSW has left a sour taste in my mouth and a round in my rem 700, 300 win magnum of course, waiting!!!!) and so on......Or leave my BUSA in semi drag mode, and build something else..... arrrrrrrrh, choices choices choices, too many choices....... but thats the thing.... Its only worth what someone will pay.... ethier way I, and most of blokes and Girl on this site have something 'special' and thats a good thing...

Have a good time on the run of fools.... pics, pics, pics

cheers fuckers
