Yeah, silicone does the job okay, but if it's caulking compound, probably not.
Doesn't last for ever though,[at the midpipe and muffler connections] so you end up doing the job every few months. Works great for holding the exhaust ring gaskets in the ports, and for sealing the headers to the ports/gaskets.

thanks for the info guys,

I just needed a little goop on the gasket to ensure a good seal, so shall proceed.

Thanks again

DO NOT PLACE silicone ANYWHERE near petrol & combustion[8]wot occures is at the flash point, some silicone particles become airbourne[8)]if those particles find thier way on to your "oil surface" oil dont work[xx(]the silo then spreads itself ova ya nice high reving engine[}:)]
Sikaflex is the best silo;)but not near petrol[:X]

permatex and loctite make automotive high temp oil resistant sealers.

Dow Corning is for breast enlargements

Selleys is just home handyman shit

Z-Bond rates highly but not good enough.

Sika sticks to anything,including skin.

Extractor gasket from Repco, red asbestos gasket material(think you can still buy it).Cut it to shape, bit of maniseal if required.
Permatex ultra blue or copper(?) are rated for exhaust, bit exxy though.
Roof and gutter sealant is crap.

Isn't it supposed to mess with the exhaust sensor on injected bikes also?
