Hardly a surprise to the Vic crew but anti-bike tax (err sorry motorcycle safety levy) has not only been extended for another two years but has been increased.

Dirty filthy rotten scum. Bring on the revolution!!!

The anouncement was published over a week ago. The silence from the pathetic old men that are the lobby groups in vic and the general motorcycling industry is deafening!!

Not happy!

That sucks arse. What's their defence against keeping a motorcycle safety levy. In fact what the fuck is a motorcycle safety levy for?

Hey Gix,

The whole scheme stinks.

Official line is that "levy" because they committed to not introducing new "taxes", was to fund motorcycle specific safety initiatives in response to the (at the time) escalating bike death toll. An idiciation of how sleazy they have been is that as a "TAC insurance levy" the $50 charge is subject to 10% GST and then a further 10% stamp duty increasing the real value of the tax to $60.50. It will increase every year. Last year the money grubbing Vic sleazbag labour govt changed laws so that all fees, charges, etc automatically increase each year with inflation + ???. As an indication, insurance on my house increased by $60 over last year - $28 extra premium, $32 extra fucking taxes!!

They conveniently chose to use a freak historically low year as comparison basis and ignored the dramatic increase in number of bikes on the road. When the scam was introduced they didn't even know who was going to control the fund (initial plan was for the RACV for fucks sake). No money was spent from the fund for the first two years - which recorded dramatic reductions in the death toll - proving that the fund was not necessary in the first place. They conveniently ignored this.

Nowdays the fund is used to pay for specific motorcycle initiatives (usually roadworks), oooh a CD & signs for the Great Ocean Rd and other things that really should be paid for out of general revenue - rider handbooks, developing testing routines, etc etc. In some instances the roadworks have been in areas that lots of bikes crash but not enough total crashes to qualify for fed govt. blackspot funding.

My main issues with the scam are:
1. That I have to pay for it in the first place.
2. That as it is per vehicle not licence, that our house pays the tax four times over each year (aleast the scooter falls below the tax cc level) in addition to the 2 car rego/TACs each year.
3. That motorcyclists have been singled out for this "user-pays" treatment. Pushbike riders, drug addicts, fat obese bastards, dumb fucks who breed uncontrollably do not contribute to their "safety/promotional" initiatives. The pushbike loby group is funded by the state govt to lobby for extra money... but then again you can't blame the pushbike riders from being organised enough to effectively lobby. Just shows how pathetic us motorcyclists are.

I think I'll stop now, I getting abit angry...don't make me angry...arrrgghhh...me naked & painted green is not a good look.

They only do it because the leaching scum get away with it.

Perhaps we should start a political C#nts register.

Any politician who tries anything on gets listed, including their home numbers, address's, spouse/family details etc etc etc. The we arrange regular rallies out the front of their homes. Give them regular escorts to school and home. Make it blatantly obvious that we are'nt happy, and that sooner or later one of us big bad bikers just might go too far. See how quickly they pull their heads in when they can't slink off and hide like weasels.

Anyone interested? (and before anyone complains about it, this is exactly what the greenies and such like vermin did in the 70's/80's/90's, and it farking works)

Sucks doesn't it.

The whole road safety industry needs nuking. Rather than focus on sensible effect improvements it is centred around generating more funding for itself so that it can do more research to justify the need for more funding. The govt. (vic especially) ignore the key findings of their own commissioned reports which generally come back saying "best/biggest improvement for road safety is better engineering/building of roads" but that costs money, so the fuckers just trott out the speed kills propaganda, lower the speed limits, tolerances & increase the fines. Sad thing is people are dying unnecessarily.

C'mon now Hornet boy, surely you forgot about all of those signs they put up telling us about specific roads being dangerous for motorcyclists and informing us how many have been killed on said roads. That alone is worth the extra money we all pay Steve CUNTING Bracks!

You got it in one Hornet, the problem is that in Vic (& I suspect other states as well) we don't have a lobby group worth a shit - we have a lobby group yes, but they're laughably under funded (cannot afford to retain the services of a professional lobbyist which from experience is absolutely necessary if you want to be taken seriously)so in effect are toothless tigers. If the WHOLE M/C industry (not just a few of the wealthiest companies as is currently the case) was to contribute to a "fighting fund" the situation would go a long way towards being rectified - money means a voice in politics.
There is no shortage of passionate, articulate & committed individuals within the motorcycling fraternity willing to take up the cause but to what end? You can't blame people for not wanting to get involved in a process which is tantamount to banging your head against a brick wall.
Futility can't help but breed apathy.
So it seems that for the moment we are doomed to be turned over & fucked in the arse by an unscrupulous, money grabbing government which recognises a soft target when they see one.
Who's for a guerilla uprising? As a wise man once said -
Burn 'em all, that'll fuck 'em. ;)

Yea Davo, my rego renewal is $113.10 for 6mths or $196.00 for 12mths as well. It's by registering your bike as a single seater mate. I guess we have it pretty easy up here in Queensland compared to you guys down there, but I'm still with you all the way. Those taxes will inevitably make their way up here in some shape or form, but for now we're doing alright. Don't think that means "screw you guys I'm ok", 'cause it doesn't. I would join in any petition if you needed support, we're all in this together.

Our alignment is scary Turbokat,

What amazes me is that on the whole the entire motorcycle industry (ie those who generate their income from motorcycles & associates accessories, services, magazines, etc etc) just doesn't seem to give a stuff. Allegedly, at a VMAC safety council meeting a few years ago, a senior manager of one of the (predominantly touring based based brands) expressed an attitude "who care's about the sportsbikes/riders, they are the cause of most of the problems...blah blah blah". Funny I wonder if he has the same attitude now that his brand is releasing big horsepower sports/naked bikes and courting the sportsbike crew?

I'd be surprised if the industry will survive purely on sales to the trackday junkies & dirt riders. The industry just doesn't seem to get it. Perhaps this is why motorcycling (again on the whole) is becomming an old farts game. Last figures I read were something like 60% of licenced motorcyclists will be over 45? in a couple of years time. Anyone looked at the average age of the punters at any big bike gathering lately?
