Hey OZ, I read your thread on Oldskool re; A/R ratios, it was perfect timing for me coz I was researching exactly the same thing at the time (spooky huh?) [:0]
It looks like we had the same ideas about what size snail to use, I was thinking along the lines of something from a 1.4 - 1.6 litre car engine to allow for the extra RPM & efficiency of a bike motor.
It seems the Rajay unit that Mr Turbo has been using 'til recently has an A/R of .40 on both inlet & exhaust, there are a few similar sized integrated wastegate jobs around but they seem to be off 1.8 - 2 litre engines. [?]
I think i've narrowed it down to a M24 model T25 or T28, they're both avail. in .42 inlet & .48 exhaust which is about perfect size wise but here's the rub - from my old turbo car days, T03 was big & T04 was bigger so I assumed (all Garrett) GT 17 was tiny, T2 bigger, T25 bigger again, T28, T3, T4, etc, you get the picture, but I was looking at one of the bike Turbo builders sites (I don't rember which - I've looked at heaps) & their stage 1 kit has a T28 & stage 2 is a T25! WTF? Have I got it arse about? I assumed stage 2 has more of everything (HP & torque) than stage 1 but now I'm a bit confused (happens a lot, I'm not very itelij...intleg...intelag....smart)
What pearls of wisdom have you turned up from your research?
Now, I am a qualified Mechanic but WTF is a flow map? All the riceburner mags are talking about flow mapping turbos for optimum efficiency [V] are they just milking themselves? I'm not trying to make 500 HP from this thing so I'm sure that shit wouldn't apply to me but you know how it is - it's good to know everything before you spend the $.
Other thing is all the Jap car turbos are blow thru, word on the street is that you can't run fuel thru a blow thru unit coz it'll fuck the seals up, sounds feasible, what do you reckon?
Do you know if there are seals avail to convert 'em?
What unit did you settle on?
What's the John Dory with Supercharging? You mean one off a jap car?
I didn't think they'd be able to handle 10k + revs. If they could, it'd be a piece of piss to set one up ay? Tell me more[:p]
