i helped a guy years ago who had an fzr with no brakes at all!!! and he rode it. he used engine braking and his feet!!!!. i bled the front and got him some brakes back but come one. he dumped it in a slow turn running off the road:(.

ex, and spart, if you do use the rear brake much you might want to consider putting the caliper above the axle and running your torque arm straight forward. Youd have to beef it up a bit as it would be in compression rather then tension but id be a straight pull atleast.

either way it looks great:).

Good point Shifty ;) It is a major flaw in the Spondon/Martek design.

When Spart was having probs with the threads rippin' out the top torque arm mount i did suggest mounting a Blade or R1 cliper above the axel and tottally removing the arm all together. I might look at this on next years strip down ;)

you could also build your caliper mount into your chain adj. block and have no torque arm. would take some serious thought but gsxrs did similar for awhile

Made some good progress eventually, thank fuck
I dropped my Throttle/choke cables off at Venhills for shortening on Wednesday and picked up my Noz switch I had made up on around trip too:D.
The cables were finished and collected 24hrs later:DThey quoted me 7-10 days turn around....RESULT
Stripped and cleaned out and refitted the carbs,K&N filters cleaned and fitted, fuel lines and filters fitted, front brakes bled up and pressure switch wired in, throttle and choke cables fitted and got the Noz switch wired up. The 2lb bottle turned up today and the 1 off mounting bracket will be done by next Tuesday fingers crossed [?]Just waiting on the clutch line and billet reservoir, barend indicators and LED back light to come thru, then a few hours wiring up to finish.....

Tottally keyless, ive wired in remote ignition/alarm and changed the fuel cap to non lockable, the red switch on the L/H is for Noz arming and wired it via the dash to remind me if its on[:o)]ive converted a Dyna quickshifter button for the GO-GO button on the L/H switchgear.
I gonna mock up some sort of rear hugger and then get it re-done in carbonfibre

ex ive got a question about the wireless stuff. What happenes if your battery dies? I really wanted to do the wireless stuff but im worried my battery will die then i cant bump start it if needed. Is that just a risk you take?

hooligan
22-05-2007, 08:49 AM
I've got a remote start on my 7/11. With mine, when i was riding it most days, there was no hassle. Since i can't ride at the moment,(screw and a bone graft) I've got it plugged in to a trickle charger.
That said, they only drain the battery about as much as a remote alarm system.

Gix11
22-05-2007, 09:19 AM
Ditto what Hooligan said.

shift1313
22-05-2007, 09:33 AM

when i spoke to ben about remote start for the tiller he said either a trickle charge or an isolator switch

You'd have to disconnect the remote system , 'cause if the battery is dead, the receiver won't work to turn the ignition on (which has happened to me).

shift1313
22-05-2007, 09:15 PM
could i trip the relay with a 9v battery:)

EXBEN
22-05-2007, 10:55 PM
You can bypass the relay if the battery dies, it's not hard to do.

shift1313
23-05-2007, 10:46 AM
Im probably just being paranoid, last question on this i swear. You guys with the keyless stuff, where do you keep the fob when riding. I keep my keys in my leather jacket, is there any chance of turning off the bike on accident? :) Im half tempted to put a keypad on the bike or a thumb scanner because they are pretty cheap. Still have the same problem if the battery dies though.

exile
23-05-2007, 11:19 AM
Ive disabled the start facility on mine, so its just remote ignition and alarm, so as long as there's enough juice in the battery to light up the dash then i can get her bump started:D
There is a chance of it cutting the ignition if its in your pocket so i keep the funky remote on a lanyard around my neck

Hillsy
23-05-2007, 12:17 PM
I keep my remote in the inside pocket of my jacket and it's been OK.
Also, I extended the ignition plug wiring from the harness (under the tank) back to under the seat and re-connected the plug there. Then I went and got another connector plug the same as my original ignition unit and used that to wire in the remote / relay. This way I can disconnect the remote unit and plug the key ignition unit back in (just in case). Also, I can unplug the remote unit if I'm not going to be riding for a few days and my battery is then OK.

Gix11
26-05-2007, 05:59 AM
Yea, I keep mine in my jacket pocket as well and to this day have only knocked the ignition off once. Keep the pocket empty apart from the remore and you'll be sweet. Also the battery as to be totally dead for it not to work. I have had it so my battery couldn't turn over the bike a vew times but on each occasion the ignition was fine so I could bump start it without a problem. I've since gone the trickle charge and also made the effort to check my idiot lights everytime I walk away from the bike which was my main problem - getting distracted by people when I rock up somewhere.
