shocking news, I've watched the replay and it looks like he was dead before he hit the ground, story out there is that the impact cut his helmet strap, knocking off his helmet and his own bike made the head impact once his helmet was removed. In the replay you can see him sliding face down on the track.

Sickening to watch and very very sad, great guy to be gone from Motogp

Yeah i watched it in slow mo a number of times :(

I agree with you im pretty sure he was gone before he hit the ground-the footage of his sliding lifeless face down on the track after the impact said it all.

RIP Marco the sport has lost a true champion!

RIP Marco Simoncelli, Super Sic.
You know something was not good by the way it all unfolded, Rossi & Colin would be feeling it.
I saw another accident like it in the supersport in europe, I think the rider was british and he was hit by Andrew Pitt, i think (Its bad when you can't remember the details anymore) same sort of deal, as soon as he was hit it was lights out, just so quick and all over.
Good riders taken to soon

this was a guy who was going to make a truly great racer, next year would have probly have seen him on a factory ride and maybe winning races. it wasn't even a bad accident, he lost the front and would have normally slid off the track and been upset at his race being over. It was just unlucky that he was hit by edwards and vale. RIP Marco, great talent and a huge loss to the sport.

Low side, tyres grip up and shoots him hard right, rossi and edwards take corner at roughly 140kph turn in and no where to go,Edwards hits Simo sqaure in the back simo bows in half backwards rossi comes from the right and collects the shoulder, neck and head of Simo,Edwards goes over the top of the debris and carnage,Rossi stays upright and due to the impact Simo's helmet gets torn from his head as he slides face down along the ground.

Noones fault it was a freakish accident one that noone saw coming and one you wouldnt believe if not for the graphic video and pics...

One positive is that I don't think he would have felt a thing.
As others have said, I really feel for Edwards and Rossi, must be terrible for them.

damo1
25-10-2011, 06:50 AM
I think one of the sadest shots in the whole video is the ariel shot of Edwards standing there looking back at Marco lying face down and helmetless.
He must have known then the severity of it all.
It would just be being replayed over and over in Edwards and Rossis heads i reacon.
