I like the cut out in the bed to run a bigger chuck/plate would make it nice to do some metal spining with ( custom al trumpets etc ) I would think about lifting the lathe off its mounts and putting a coolant tray underneath it now while your setting it up. Makes it easyer to do clean up when just turning , and if you want to run something that needs to be cooled is just a matter of sorcing a coolant pump (I use a 10 watt pond pump )
