What's the flat section across the back of the frame for.

RevHead
02-03-2012, 07:12 PM
the lock is in the mail,
the flat is alloy strap that i bent up to support the rear tail section ,i drilled it and screwed it into position ,and made all the other brackets ,also screwing them into position, then i had a mock up fit just to check everything fitted ,then i took the subframe to our local metal land and got them to tig it up for me ,it cost me $60 for this ,
my metal land up here is an engineering shop as well.

I was paint stripping rims today to get ready to paint and found out that the out side of rim is polished so might just paint inside black and keep out side polished.

that tail looks really long in that pic. it might be because there's no tank or headlight, but i think the tail is too far past the back wheel. But as always, it's not my bike.

bluedrags

09-03-2012, 09:26 PM
Mate, Pete replaced the tail for a reason... It never looked quite right on the gixxers. i think after all the work you have put in so far you should rethink what seat and tail you are going to use.

Have you tried the zx6R tail?

Looks like you'll need to move the cowl back to fit the tank and seat on, but if you keep that angle the top of the cowl should come nicely online with the top of the tank ;)

bluedrags
29-03-2012, 04:39 PM

Anyone got an old zx6r seat that's not wanted.

Chase
29-03-2012, 04:55 PM
If you use the original seat it will sit against the tank well and you can get big Kev to recover and trim it down a bit at the back to fit the line of the cowl.

Think I've still got my seat if you want one to carve up and see. Happy to donate it to the cause.

Perfect length mate. It's your choice with the height and lines. As long as you follow at least one line it should look good. Either line up the top of the tail and pillion seat with the top of the tank, or as you have it there it seems to follow the front frame brace and knee recess in the tank. Keep fiddling and stepping back and you'll make the right decision.
