View Full Version : ZXR 750 / 900 Conversion
I have just picked up a ZX9 (for parts mainly) and was thinking of transplanting the 9 motor into the ZXR.
I came across this website -

Is this a good indication on how to do the conversion.
Any input would be appreciated.

Only the B model 9 will go into a 7 frame...is that what you got?
98 and later are completely different.

I can help with any questions you have. Been there done that and it's bloody easy. You are supposed to get it engineered because the engine numbers will "red flag" come rego time. If your going to do a rebuild though, you can fit all the zx9 bottom end into the zxr750 crankcases. The motors are nearly identical except for bore/stroke, gear ratios and the 750 motor has double valve springs, the zx9 has some spring things that go over the cam followers to get rid of that zxr top end rattle. you can get the best of both worlds and mix/match all your good parts. Don't forget to fit the zx9 CDI as it has a lower rev limiter. I know a few people that smoked their new zx9 motor.
Thanks for the info.
Here's a couple of pics of the donor bike before a good wash. Started pulling it apart last night.

Thanks - Is it better to use the 9 carbs, or put the 750 ones on?

are you swapping out the front end??
If not, how much would you want for the complete 9 front end?
Can the 750 carbs be used on the 9? If so, will it have to be re-jetted? Do I have to do anything different with crankcase breathers and hoses to the airbox?
Cheers, Jed
