Ive had a total hip replacement and a pelvis rebuild,so after about a miles worth of riding,i decided the bars/fairing had to go.

http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt50/lindarobjones/zxr750/100_1891.jpg
Then i fitted a second hand very cheap R1 seat unit (boring!).

Handlebars and risers, again just old stuff from my shed.
http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt50/lindarobjones/zxr750/100_1888.jpg
Then next on the list,is an extended swingarm, bolt in extensions bought from the auction site for for a small amount,as the seller had listed them in a weird way,and i came across them by accident.:D

The extensions a re from a zx12r,and had to be milled to make fit.

http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt50/lindarobjones/zxr750/100_2014.jpg
I rode it around for a few weeks like this, and then became bored with it,parked it up under a dust cover and forgot about it.
Then by chance i won a vw eos 8x18 new car wheel from the auction site for £3.54.:D Less than a copy of streetfighters magazine for comparison.

I only have a small lathe,so making nice big wheel hubs is almost impossible for me,so i started to make them in sections.

disc carrier.
The sprocket side is a bit more complex.
Because the face of the wheel is not flat,i made a centre bearing carrier, which slots into the rear of the sprocket carrier.
http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt50/lindarobjones/zxr750/100_2699.jpg
I also made some sleeves to take up the differance in the bolt holes on the wheel.

At this stage i should have taken the bits apart, marked and drilled the pcd holes etc etc. However,it was sunny (in England!!!),so i decided to mock things up into the rear of the bike.

Note that nothing at this point was bolted on etc.
Ive done some machining today, but not taken any pic yet.
Ive also decided to shorten the tail unit by about 6inches,to help make the wheel/tyre stand out a bit more on the bike.
Im also tempted to lower the bike drastically, just to be a bit more original than the jacked up tail in the air look.
Still undecided,but mocked up.

Ive bought some candy green paint in readiness for a new paint job, which will be sprayed over silver flake.
This is one i did for a friend using orange candy over silver flake,so it'll be the same, but green!

I,ve thought about a 240 on my zxr. how will you get the chain to the front sprocket. from what i can see, the chain will hit the frame. i considered machining some of the frame away, but it wouldn't leave much metal left which would mean reinforcing with a plate or something on the outside. it all got too messy. any way i'll be watching with interest.. i like it so far.

I'm interested to see how you'll fabricate the brake mount. Looks like a PITA!! Definately thinking outside the square though! I like it!

Thank you for comments.
Well,mr.zxr, you can buy off the shelve 240 kits for kawasaki's from the likes of roaringtoyz and more from the states, without any jackshafts etc. So i figure if the kits do not have jack shafts, the 1/4 offset sprocket usually supplied with the kits is going to give enough clearance for the chain? Working on this idea,i think i can do it? It'll be funny if it goes tits up,and doesnt fit,i'll look such a fool!!!:D
Also, some of the 240 kits come with an 8.5 inch wide wheel,im using an 8 inch one. You never know the .5 inch differance may be whats needed??
Im worried now!!!:)

mr.zxr
29-09-2011, 09:52 AM
Some of those kits run the rear wheel offset to get the clearance. i think if you run a 520 chain you might just have to notch the frame a little with a die grinder. i couldn't do that because with the turbo i think it'll be too much HP through a 520 chain.

dixiethedog
29-09-2011, 06:12 PM
Youve got me thinking now! I just presumed that with the kits being bolt on mods, you wouldnt need to grind/cut the frame?? I'll have to finish maching the wheel hubs, stick it all together and see what happens?
If it causes any issues, ive a spare 7.5x17wheel that i can fit instead.:)
I wouldnt be to fussed about modding the frame if it was steel.
I'll do more work when i can and post to let you see what happens.:)

29-09-2011, 07:48 PM
Dont worry, your not putting me off lol. Im actually about to bid on a 300/17 tyre on egay,so plans might go even madder! (if thats a proper word?). lol.

mr.zxr
30-09-2011, 09:32 AM
There may be wisdom to your madness. with a 300 you could run an outrigger setup where the chain runs on the outside of the frame rails or a jackshaft. one thing i didn't know is that the 240 will fit on a stock swingarm with extensions. i've seen it fit on a stock zx14 arm in a zx7 frame.... more food for thought.

Lots of the Seppo's run silly tyres in their Busa's.
Not sure which sizes (might be 240?) but they have to
grind out the frame and/or run the wheel off-set to
the right.

Many decide they dont like this, so either go to a
stepped out double chain system or go to an "outside
drive" and run the chain outside the frame. As soon as
they do this there's no limit on size and many go 300/330 etc.

30-09-2011, 06:32 PM
My gsx1260efe will be running an outside drive set up,as im not that keen on jackshafts. I had the bike out in the street yesterday afternoon to take a better look, and i think i can manage to get the chain run set up with little or no frame grinding. We'll see?? LOL.I like a challenge.:D
My FJ1200 which is getting a 9inch wide wheel is getting its frame chopped out and repositioned,oh the beauty of steel frames.....

Tony Nitrous
01-10-2011, 09:05 AM
Dodge had his slabsider frame cut and spaced out
but its not that common with alloy frames.

dixiethedog
02-10-2011, 03:05 AM
Im planning on doing one of my gsx11efe frames like dodge's to allow for chain clearance. Yantosh also did his gsxr like this. Ive a spare "scrap" efe frame, which will be used for parts. When i do that,i'll start a new thread.:)
But thank you for the comment,it is a good thinking point.:)

there is a lot of spare room inside that car wheel
enough for a bottle of gigglegas....?

dixiethedog
19-10-2011, 01:41 AM
I like that idea. Ive not seen a bike with a nitrous bottle in the wheel before.
It could be a way to fill the space, and still looking cool.
Ive a bottle sitting in my spares, but i dont have the full kit.
I had actually been thinking of chopping the base out of the nitrous bottle, and making it a tool holder(a bit like a tool roll seen on choppers),with a nice billet alloy holder,in the front space of the swingarm.
If I go for it,in the wheel,i'll tell the streetfighting world fimpBikes came up with the idea.:D
Since i last posted here,Ive bought a new (but second hand)Borbet A 10x17 wheel and a new (second hand)300 tyre. Thoughts for this are to fit it in the rear of my FJ12,with the 9inch wide wheel that was going to go in the rear, going in the front end. Im thinking of it looking like a steam roller!:D

Thanks again to both of you's for kind comments. Yesterday i started by tidying my workshop,so at least ive a clear space to work which makes it seem a little better. I also spent a little time just looking at other projects ive lined up for the winter months. And next year and the year after.....
Other projects which i have are;
Suzuki gsx1260efe (in the states gs1150,not sure what they are down under?).
http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt50/lindarobjones/project%20stuff/CopyofCopyofPicture021-2.jpg
This one has already had in the past a lot of work done to it. Its had a one off stainless steels swingarm, been converted to twin lock up struts at the rear,a 1260 bore kit, star racing pro pipe, kawasaki modified zxr USD forks, with risers and proper handlebars. It used to be my daily ride a few years ago, used in the sun,the rain, the snow etc,365 days a year.
The easiest thing to do would be to strip it down, which ive started, powder coat the frame and wheels, give it a fresh paint job,and a good clean and polish, job done. However that would be too easy.:DThe plan is a new swingarm with outside drive,a 330 tyre with a 12.5 inch wide 3 piece split rim wheel,a 190tyre up front, and a draw thru turbo system.
Partly built wheel for the suzuki.

Next up on the list,a Yamaha FJ1200.
I bought this one day when i was stuck with no transport,it was cheap!
http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt50/lindarobjones/project%20stuff/Picture061.jpg
I got bored with this relatively quickly, when the fork seals needed replacing,i junked the front end,and fitted a suzuki TL1000 usd one instead, with a yam R1 wheel and hayabusa 6 pot brakes. At the rear i junked the horrible back wheel and tyre and fitted a kawasaki zx9 wheel with modern 180 rubber. Much better, but again became bored.

The FJ1200 was going to be getting a 240 back end, with a second hand (cheap)9x16 aftermarket german wheel into a one off double tubed alloy swingarm, which was a swop for some junk.:D
http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt50/lindarobjones/zxr750/100_2530-2.jpg
However,yet again,my plans have changed.
I bought a second hand (cheap again)german aftermarket car wheel(porsche 911 fitment)10X17 and a new but second hand 300 tyre. So,this is going in the rear of the FJ1200.

The wheel that was going into the rear from the double tubed swingarm is heading to live up front between some new wide yokes. I want the bike to look like a steam roller.:D
Ive also just recently bought myself a very tidy kawasaki gpz750 uni trac (non turbo),which im planning on doing a simple transformation on,Aprilia rsv usd front forks,a newer more modern swingarm, decent modern tyres/wheels and brakes, and a swop of bodywork. Im thinking of fitting a full set of Z1 panels? I can make it look like a Z1 for hardly any money being spent.:D
After that, ive a raked front ended kawasaki Z1100r,with an extended swingarm, and not much else yet.
