Cliff Burton was the original bass guitarist for Metallica.
Burton joined the band in 1982 and performed on its debut studio album, Kill 'Em All. He performed on two more Metallica albums, Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets,He was known for his "lead bass" approach, in which the bass played a melodic and soloist role, in addition to holding down the harmonic and rhythmic foundation of the band.
On September 27, 1986, Burton died when the band's tour bus over-turned in rural southern Sweden. Burton was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Metallica on April 4, 2009.

:D

Fuck Yeah, for me Metallica were never the same after Cliff died.

When Metallica first hit the scene the heaviest Bands out there were Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. Then I remember hearing about this band who had this song called Whiplash that was so heavy and fast that it would make your ears bleed! The only way you could buy Metallica records in Australia back then was to get them imported and it cost us $28! That was a lot of money for a 14 year old but it was worth it, I had never heard anything as cool as Kill em all. I was lucky they had just released another album called Ride the lightening and I saved the cash and got that one imported also and after one listen I was a devoted fan.
It wasn't just about the music it was there attitude, back then they swore that they would never make a film clip or sell out and become commercial. As a teenager I really loved hearing that shit. These guys changed Metal forever.
Cliff is a legend. And for me the best Metallica albums will always be their first three.

I was gutted when I heard he had died back then, and even now I still feel a tinge of sadness 25 years later.

Base solo take one, I think the only band in the world to have a track just for the base solo.

Awesome Guitarist, wouldve loved to see him live. Incredibly talented as a Rhythmn Guitarist as well according to the biography.
