Hey kids!
Lookin at buyin a fuel tank for my GSX project, ones come up dirt cheap but it does have some surface rust inside the tank which will require attention.
Spoke to Banditrod earlier n he said he's used some acid shit he got from a bike shop that worked a treat. Any of use cunts gone down this route? If so, what did u end up using & how well did it work?

Im trying to google it but my interweb skillz are failing me... :(

Actually, it could just be my shitty work computer. Google only occasionally returns results that relate to what I ask for! [xx(]

about 500 kw in a ta22 makes for real fun till the drivers side front subframe cracks ! On the plus side you can turn right real fast by just jumping on the brakes .

good news lance

i just did the kat tank the other month with the KBS kit
biggest pain was getting out the old coating, do yourself a favour and pay someone a few bucks to media blast it

failing that i used some mini tennis balls,
taped up the petcock hole, chucked in some paint stripper then the balls
taped up the filler hole
shook it up for a few minutes, let it settle
hosed it all out, splash some metho through it, let it dry for a day

repeated that about 4 times til i knew all the old stuff was out then did the kit directions

i bought the bigger kit just to be safe, but i couldve gotten away with the smaller one

the mustang ones actually started in 72 as well in jap land, came here in about 74 I think as the ra25/28

This particular one is a early TA22... and some people may remember it from jules' shed where it sat for a few years as his housemate had great plans... but did nothing with it. so my missus baught it for her to pay for, me to work on, and then probably me to drive it most (it's going to have an SR20det so should be rocking about 180RWKW in a lovely little 1000kg shell... mmmm.... wideways....)

ONLY 180kw??? C'mon mate.... Do it properly n go with some real mods....

180 will be plenty to start off with... if i end up "buying" the car off the missus... which i probably will when it's done... then i'll probably treat it to a horse steroids injection in the way of a bigger turbo and some head work or something to get it up around 230ish. but i don't think i would go much more than that so that i can at least keep a little bit of traction.

Woops. Ok, I think you should put a dart block 393 stroked windsor and piss the 2L off. Only juice and milk should come in 2L!

oh yeah, the gravel thing for the rust
i didnt have to do that but heard its the way to go

the kbs kit has a rust convertor/primer stuff that it says can go over small amounts of rust

I've heard of people stringing together a bunch of different sized nuts (as in nut and bolt type nuts) in a loop and shaking that around in the tank to loosen the rust up. It's easier to fish out than a cup full of loose gravel.

You can also use the elctrolisis method with batery charger, sacrificial anode, bicarb soda and water i think or as i used in my Rickman tank the POR15 kit, easier.

I sold a bike which had a bit of surface rust in the tank. the guy rang me proud as punch and said he fixed it. he cut the tank in half with an angle grinder, used a scotchbrite wheel to clean it up and then pulled out the stick welder and welded it back together.... Then i told him about one of those tank kits...funny shit.
