Well the finance is finally up and we've got another car, so this is no longer the daily ride. It's time to start chopping.

This is what I'm starting with, there's been a few minor updates since this but they are irrelevant.

After many hours of photoshopping by my wife here is the gist of what it will look like. Bearing in mind finding photos of the right thing at the right angle is a pain in the arse we've done near as we can with some parts. Anyway here it is.

Currently parts collecting. Just got new rear shock and swinger to be modified. Both from a gen one busa. I've seen the busa swinger polished in a bandit in north qld and it was win. Also it's easier to get trick wheels for busa than bandit.

Mate you'd be amazed how many people ask me if they are oil filters.

BANDITROD

I must admit I had to look twice I thought they were some sort of aftermarket filter to start with

Started on the seat last night. Peeled the cover and the foam off to cut the base down.

How It looks on the bike.

https://i.imgur.com/SWvNU5E.jpg

Little fella seems to like it.

https://i.imgur.com/fFEvI7O.jpg

I'm going to use original fittings to attach the seat. So take this bit off.

https://i.imgur.com/qA4DhTj.jpg

Then make a nice flat bit for it to sit on on your base. I used the dremmel to do this bit.

https://i.imgur.com/KKPd4rs.jpg

Make sure it fits.

https://i.imgur.com/X8fuZI9.jpg

Ran out of light so will update when I finish it.

Hey Jordy, was just thinking of Chewy the other day. Pics would be great, I miss the little bugger. Morry I can't say I have heard that saying. I figure if I slow down then it'll be a shed ornament. Si I just about shit myself the first time the grinder touched but bloody glad I did it. Like you said, No turning back now. :D It's going to be a steep learning curve tough seeing as this is my first proper full on fighter build.

Fish
04-10-2011, 07:06 PM
Ok, so here's me being a big nerd. The bike now has a name... "Gauntlet". I'm a warhammer 40k nerd and after reading heaps of Dan Abnett's work found the Gaunts Ghosts series. Need less to say I fucking LOVED it! Brilliant read and anyone who's even remotely interested in Sci-fi or Warhammer should read it. So the idea is to build the bike as the main character's (Colonel-Commisar Ibram Gaunt) personal bike. I wrote to Dan Abnett telling him what I was doing and he rekons it's cool, so keep and eye here for more nerdy updates.

I have a Gen1 arm spare but have also been looking at

Busa arm looks beefy but its heavy!

Ok, been playing with the tail. Here it is at full length. Took about 100mm out of it.
https://i.imgur.com/1FlokaZ.jpg

Get the cut off bit in position and add expander foam to hold it. Add more to sides to fill the gap and sculpt.
https://i.imgur.com/n3QIVqq.jpg

More sculpting
https://i.imgur.com/9TZQQ3O.jpg

You need a good eye to get the lines to match up.
https://i.imgur.com/Z3wySIT.jpg

I don't have a very good eye, so Mrs Fish the artist of the house came to my rescue.
https://i.imgur.com/p7ptkBo.jpg

Once foam is sculpted, add body filler.
https://i.imgur.com/f9fH31J.jpg

Be aware that this shit goes off pretty fucking quick... as in by the time you have it mixed to a "uniform colour".
https://i.imgur.com/pGMai2d.jpg

More filler on.

So here's how she stands at the moment. The bandit swinger et al. is out. Need to take a little off the busa swingarm to fit it in as well as machine up a few new spacers. The carbs and airbox are out to fit the busa shock and are also awaiting the mikuni RS40s and associated pod filters. The tail section is requiring more filling and sanding etc then a mold will be made for to be making the new tail section.

Wow, 5 years goes fast! Soooo, quick update. Wife left me for fucktard, got depressed as shit, found newer better woman, massive shit fight with ex over son and property, Dad died, got depressed as shit, married newer better woman, had kid, disowned half my family over Dad's death, had another kid, not much bike anything over that entire time. So here we are, finally got bike out of new inlaw's shed and we're off to see Lynton to kick start the build again. Never mind all the warhammer shit, decided to go a different direction. Lynton is sorting out putting the swing arm in for me and I'll be off and running again YAY!!

All photo's on this thread are now fixed. Fucking Photofuckit! Going back over this thread has been interesting, lot's of mistakes to rectify in my haste and lack of knowledge. Dog ate the shit out of my wiring so have to play with the dreaded multi-coloured spaghetti, need to relocate the battery because the top of the 'busa swinger fouls the battery box, had to get a new seat unit because I cut the original WAY to short. Oh the benefits of hindsight.

No that about covers it, just used a bit of scrap to drill the hole in the right spot and out the other side of each mount,
Then drilled both holes to size, bolted the boss into place and back welded,

Welding the 2mm wall boss to a 1 mm edge I used 1.6 mm tungsten, around 70 amps dc 66 pps 66% background
0.8 mm er70s6 filler wire, number 7 should stubby gas lens, 6-8 lpm gas if people are interested in the settings
