Has anyone put a tyre this big on a 01 R6?
Will it fit?
The standard size is 180/55/17.

As long as there will still be clearance from the s/arm and the chain i wouldn'r se a big issue. Handling will change slightly, but shouldn;t affct too much. You should also have a greater lean angle due to putting a wider tyre on the same sized rim I would think

I want so see if anyone has done It ( and had no clerance issues)before I fork out for the tyre to find out it doesn't

190 tyres on bike deigned for 180 it effects handling greatly mate it will be harder to tip into corners if I was you I would stick with the 180

Oh..... But it's cheap!
Better stick to the 180 then.

Im not arguing, well, I kind am..
A 190 on a 5.5 rim actually gives a pointier profile..
Think of this line as the tyre )
By squeezing it.onto a skinnier rim you put pressure on.the sides(top.and bottom of line) so forcing it to more of a point. Consequently a smaller contact at no lean, but a larger on leant over, hence more mid turn grip and easier turn in.
A lot of 600 race guys run 190s for this reason.
Hope that makes sense, I know what I mean but.explaining it is.tricky!

^If its only a 5.5" rim, wouldnt that make the profile all fucked up? I run a 180 on a 5.5 that was designed for a 170 rear tyre n thats a good thing. Would have thought 190 would be too much...

heaps of racing boys run a 190/55 on their 600's no dramas at all

cheers.joe.

I am only going from personal experience my bad it handles shitloads better with the 180 rather than when I had a 190 on it

I've heard a lot of guys run 180's on their 6" rims instead of 190's because they turn in better.

Can't imagine a 190 on a 5.5" being "better" ??

Exactly what I'm trying to say hilsy

It's the 50 or 55 that makes the difference, the 55 is "pointier" than the 50. The second number is the height as a % of width, i.e. a 190/50 is 190 wide and 95 high, but a 190/55 is 190 wide and 104.5 high. Then if you squeeze the 190/55 onto a rim (or is that a wheel, TK?), it becomes pointier still, like a 180/60, if you know what I mean, more like > than ).

Man up and squeeze it on if you have the chain/swing arm clearance and suck it and see !

I'm currently running a 180/55/17 on a 4.5 inch rim (squeezed in about 20mm at the tread) on the rear of a piece of shit gpx600r. There is alot of things to factor in with squeezing tyres onto smaller rims, not only the tyre profile but also the wall stiffness and original design specs of tyre manufacturer (some tyres of the same width are intended for different rim widths) Then there is also the riding style you have/use IE you do all your Km's on the ragged edge in the hills without a straight in site or highway with no bends worth leaning for.

I wanted a wide tyre (for the bike in question anyhow) to get into a dual compound tyre mostly. Firm in the middle for the high Km's I do on the highway , but sticky on the edges for the ride home through the twisty stuff.

I have never liked the feel of 190's. And I have always found it easier to get knee draggin action on 180s. Still if it's your thing go for it. I don't see an issue fitting it they brought out the R-<s>soles</s> 1's with a 190 stock rear tyre for that era so it shouldn't be a problem in the 6.

For me its always...

190 or 200 on a 6"
170 or 180 on a 5.5"

Never had any joy mixing between them.
