Just after some advice on choosing between these two bikes. I used to have a 2000 ZX9, but have never ridden the 750. On paper the 750 has more HP 147 vs 141 and is lighter but the ZX9 has more tourques.

Will I notice the difference in tourque. I'm 120kg, so I'm thinking I'd need the higher tourque bike, but the 750 is lighter.

What do you guys think?

750...

the gixxer 750 is in a class of its own.. awesome flickability and handling, but with "big" bike power.

you wont miss the grunt of the zx9.... the way the 750 picks up revs, it'll spin up into its power range so much quicker then the 9 could ever hope to.

cheers.joe.

Woops got the specs wrong, the k3 750 has 141 and the 9 has 144. Splitting hairs though. I like the fact that the gixxa is injected.

Can't say I've ridden an injected Gixxer 750, but I do have a 2000 ZX9.

They were pretty much the last of the carb'd sports bikes from Kwaka, and the 2000 model in particular has Keihins that have a non-replaceable needle seat. So if/when they wear oval, the partial throttle fuelling gets erratic and there's not much you can do about it (it's not bad on mine @45K, but you do notice it). FI bikes (obviously) don't have these issues.

Having said that, there's a few mods you can do to the ZX9 to make it spin up a bit quicker (airbox mod, Kleen Air mod), and with just a K&N filter, end can and re-jet mine punched out 140 at the rear wheel (stock is 126).

And you've probably noticed that ZX9's are a lot cheaper than K3 750's, so if that's a factor for you they win the bang for your buck competition.

Big dudes need the biggest motor. Although injection on the gixxa would sway me. instead, I'd look for a early gixxa thou.

Well after having a 2000 zx9 I can say go for the gixxer the 9 is a good bike but they are big and bulky and the frames are made of paper

A 2000 ZX9R will see around 133bhp at the wheel with a can and jet kit, the K3 Gixxer will see less, my old 750K5 with a full titanium Yoshi and K&N filter and custom map was 135bhp at the wheel. If you can get a K4/5 Gixxer then go for it as they are one of the best Gixxers ever made, much lighter than a 9ZXR, with better suspension and radial brakes.

From Memory K6Thou has a 750 he may still want to part with.

I'd be taking the Gixxer and once you add a power commander and all the go fast bits it will out pace the 9 hands down.

Managed to sort a deal out this morning for the K3 GSXR750. Really happy with the bike and pretty fucking excited to be back on a roadbike again, after a 2 year spell. Looks like I'll be coming to the NFR this year. I know it's got to get naked, but at the moment I'm just stoked to be riding again, plus I can't afford to spend any money on it.

On a side note, while loading the bike onto the ute when I picked it up I managed to snap the RHS clip on! Couldn't believe it! Managed to get one from the wreckers on the way home. Bit of a downer but guess it can only get better!

When I put it on the ute the front end wasn't were I wanted it, so I picked it up by the bars and the fucker snapped. I won't be lifting it by the clipons any more!

Wow. Better now than during a stand up wheelie I guess.

Wow, that is strange. Have you checked to see if there's been any impact at the front or if it's been dropped to cause a crack in the clip on? I've given clip-ons way more abuse than that in the past and never had one snap.

Hmmm I'd be checking where it cracked to look for previous damage mate.

The only damage on the bike is on the left hand side where it looks like it's fallen of the stand and scratched the case and the top of the fairing. The can has a scratch but he said it was on his mates bike when he binned it. Actually now that I think about it, there is a hole taped up in the right hand air duct.

Didn't see any damage when we changed the clip on over. Frame, forks, rims etc looked spot on. I'm off to the garage to double check everything now!
