This must sound like a dumb question but do all 85' gsxr750's come with a hydraulic clutch's? Just wondering cos i thought only 1100's had them [:o)] Or is mine just special?

Cheers,

Luke.

Yes they did Luke, they only went to cable in 1988 but the 1100's did not. Don't be fooled though they may look the same but the 750 and the 1100 clutch's are different Mate.

I've converted my 1100 slabby motor from hydraulic to cable with a '96GSX750 "teapot" sprocket cover. Bolted straight on, only had to take up a little slack on the pushrod, and use the 1100 gearchange linkage, works fine. So they are interchangeable, you can have either system with the right sprocket cover. The hose was too short when converting to 'fighter bars, so I converted to cable and also got rid of the master cylinder assembly on the 'bars.
Just another useless bit of trivia.......!!

Ah, gotcha! Always thought that was the case I just had now idea of when they started using cable cluthes. Ages back I use to walk around thinking every slabby i saw was a 7/11. F#*king dumbshit! Thanks for the history lesson, I thingk i'll keep the hydralic clutch on so i can make use of a window cover a picked up from deano a while back. Luke.

Sorry Giff I actually meant the clutch assembly itself as for the covers and cables that is good to know.:D

All good Dave, you're right, the actual clutch baskets/assemblies are way different.
Luke, you can still use a windowed clutch cover and cable combination, as the slabby's have the actuator on the leftside, running a pushrod through the gearbox .These are the models you can interchange. Later gixxer750's have the cable actuator on the clutch side of the motor, these will not work with a windowed cover.
