Engine will rev more freely, ie spin up faster.

my track bike motor has a lightened crank. does spin up quicker but apparently it isnt the done thing anymore. i looked into getting one done and they told me that what you pick up in rpm will not so noticable as you loose torque.

probably great for race motors that want high rpm high hp but for road use where torque is your friend a lightned crank my not be that desireable

good luck

Used to get the same effect by removing the stator from the end of the crank on old air-cooled 4's back in the 80's, but more modern bikes are already lighter than the old Dinosaurs. As well as not having a stator on the crank of course.

plus no stator really fucked there touring capability :D

yeah i noticed that chalk, all the old 80s gp bikes have stator covers removed and very minmal units for endurance races.

abelg, Ive never lightened a bike crank or stator but i have used flywheel weights on offroad bikes to get more tractable power. It makes a big difference and as these guys said, less weight isnt really the way for a street bike.
