My cousin is looking at importing a VW car into Victoria. Problem is that this model has never been available for sale here, but is available in USA, Indonesia, UK, etc...

Having a look on the Vic roads website to see if I can find any usefull info.

I do know that this model has been imported into the country by others as there are about 10 or so of them around the country. Being from a big manufacturer like VW I shouldn't see it being too much of a problem ad it being a 1974 car should mke it easier with inspction I would hope.

Has anyone had any experience or knows somene who has?

Jules

should be pretty good being that old as it will be exempt from a lot of the shitty ADR's that came in Mid 70'sish

It's a butt ugly VW type 181 aka 'The Thing' aka "Kurierwagenut he wants to get one, so why not.

Doing a bit of reading from the Dept of Infrastructure and Transport at the moment. We'll see what I find

no problems with that, anything over 30 years old can be rego'ed Australia wide LHD if it's in original condition.

go here to start off
http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/importing_vehicles/index.aspx
put it this way if you import without a permit and and it gets here YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR STORAGE UNTILL YOU GET THE PERMIT
and if they decline the permit you have to pay to get it destroyed or sent back.
