Mine on the 7 is in about 70 million bits at the moment was wondering about the same,
I think it is a heat guard guessing it would be best to be inplace

Is it the petrol tank?

You might need it....

Or the airbox?

If you ditch that you might need different jets

If it's the same thing that's on my ZX9, it's a "seal" to stop the exhaust header heat rising up under the tank and (potentially) melting the wiring up there.

Just ditch it.

Righto it's getting ditched then cos it's almost identical to the zx9

Yep, After looking at the hole mine left after I broke it I think it needs to be in place helps to keep all the wires and HT leads up and away from the radiator exhaust etc.
