Ok need to go back to the drawing board with the plenum first up was to make up plenum and pull it down on to the base plate works OKish but not great still leaks and is a pain in the arse need a new plan

The zx7 air box has a plastic base plate that bolts to the inlet side of the carbs if I remove this and bolt the plenum to the face it will take the trumpets away will this effect carb performance?
I can make up a plate to bolt to the plastic base plate and replace the foam seal with an o ring but it only has 3 mounting bolts to pull down.
Been looking at the bike to long and can't see any new idea's at the moment what else can I do?
What other option can people see.
As always thanks in advance for help [8D][8D][8D]

That works

First try was OK but not great (read fucked) need to make a better one just can't see any new idea's. I keep seeing the same problem and getting same answer need a fresh set of eye's or someone who know what they are doing :D

Make a plate say 10mm that bolts to the carbys and them have the sheet metal bolt to that with o-rings and shit...

Or using the plenum you have, cut holes and weld in pipes so you can pick up the bolt holes in the face of the carbys.

First option I would sujest is say 8 mm plate for carby side, and make an access hatch on far side so you can use carby bolts to mount it.

Second option same but use later model carbs off 636 (they are pritty much the same on the outside) the way to recognise them is look at the velocity trumpets (there bolted on indevidually to the carbs and hold on the plastic backing plate also the carb block has a throttle position sensor). Advantages asside of Velocity stacks being separately bolted on are the Throttle position sensor (might be handy for ignition control in the future and the carbs have a round mounting setup instead of the oval one of the earlyer setup.

If you plan on using a pitot tube to balance the pressures you will need to isolate the bowl vent from the venturi area , like they are with the std velocity stacks fitted , but fed from the pitot tube so you get an increasing fuel flow with boost and don't need to stuff around with jetting as much
Yours is very much like the cbr 600 a mate did, has a bolt on plate with large dia tubes welded on, the velocity stacks fit inside and cv references from outside the velocity stacks , and the plenum hose clamps above like an efi plenum, his is pressure referenced via pitot fed in outside the tubes
