I will start off with showing the bike now named deliverance and the collection of parts I have ready to use on it.
It has a 1216cc kit, 12.5 pistons, WEBB cams, APE springs, retainers and cam wheels, kibblewhite valves, flowed head, 38 mikunis, full Dynatek adjustable CDI and ignition, Ohlins front and rear and heavy duty clutch.

The bike

I thought I had a new gearbox but it turned out to be for the 750 so I sold that off and will hopefully have a bandit1200 gearbox soon
Parts taken off the bike will be up for sale.

bandit 1200 gearbox cost me £30 or au$73 a bargain

Oooh one of my favorite parts of a build is the start... The anticipation, the plans, the dreams, the ideas.
My next favorite part is the finished it, turn the key and go for the first ride - big grin wheel, in the air doing 3 times the legal speed limit just cause the bike is so damn sweet.

I hate everything in between - its all fucken shit bollocks why wont this fucking fit shit ow my fucking knuckles grrr

Then again when something works during the build and works well thats pretty good too. :D

Cant wait to see where you end up with this puppy mate.

Ah yes that was my first thoughts about the seat, being used to seeing very slim wasp like backends and very nice they are too,
This bike is going to be a 70's meets 90's retro but with modern day ideas so what that means is the backend is going to be kicked up a bit so the saddle is not going to be in the flat as a board position normally associated with this type of saddle.
If it turns out how i see it in my mind it's gonna have that wow thats fuckin different factor in a sort of modern day mad max styley.

Yeah the arm is an srad item I got off of egay I have degreased it ready to be powder coated satin black.

I am due into Adelaide around the 20-04-07 give or take a few days:D

Now this I have to see. The whole saet thing is what got me as well as I remember how big my 650 seat was. The shear depth will make it a nightmare to match up with the tank, but you sound as though you have it under control Stu. Very interested to see it happen.

The arm will slot straight in, both the srad and slingshots are 225mm wide at the pivot point.
It's 60mm shorter than an 1100 slingshot so that should make it about 20mm shorter than the 750 slingshot arm which will make things very interesting indeed and will add to the look I am after. :)

mixing the two best makes of bike on the planet.
The calipers are/were used by Suzuki and Kawasaki on some of their production bikes and both manufactures share technical data with each other or they used to dont know if they still do. :)

Well I'm impressed already Stu. She couldn't be going to a better home. The beauty of Streetfighters is making them original or unique and you will certainly be doing that. I never had the balls to strip her down and fighter it. I guess I already had the ZX6/12 as my fighter toy.
Looking foward to catching up real soon.

Heres my apprentice fighter builder with the bike

the pic makes the bike look longer than it actually is any comments chaps.
Remember i am building a fighter with 70's 80's meets 90's and crashes into the millenium

I have found with the srad arm the pivot spindle is fatter than the slingshot one.
What would be the best way round it .I was thinking of putting a sleeve in the srad arm or perhaps boring out the pivot holes in the slingshot frame ?

oh yeah and he sub frame rails will be dealt with the back part is already off. I am going to cut shap and then bolt it together to make sure I get it right before getting it welded.

The engine is up on the bench just waiting for my new clutch hub holding tool to arrive.
I can get on with the gearbox then and while I am at it I am going to put a new cam chain and ape cam chain tensioner. If anyone has a ape tensioner for the gixxer engines they no longer require I would be very interested in aquiring it from you

and found some crunched up bits of thrust washer and half of it which was found in the oil pick up strainer.Explains the gearbox problem thats if it is from the gearbox?

and forks after
http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/upload/96128321671732.jpg

fugured out the swingarm pivolt spindle the answer I think is to use the srad spindle and cut it so it is flush with the sides of the srad arm and bore out the srad spindle so the slingshot spindle will slide through the srad one now being used as a sleeve. all the measurment work out.
The wheel spindle will have some sleeves made up for the spindle slots as the srad slots are fatter than the slingshot spindle

best off getting new bushes made mate

when putting one bush inside another you can run the problem of the centre spacer not seperating both the bushes properly.

i have supplied bushes in a hardned and ground bearing material in deminsions nominaited, mosly for dirt bikes as they wear out quicker and cost a small fortune genuine.

A word of advice the bandit 12 layshaft is 4mm shorter than the ones fitted to the gixxer1127:(. I had to swap all the gears from the bandit layshaft to the gixxer one[8D].

G'day Stu

comin along alright mate

When u fitted the srad swingarm, r u still able to use the original gixxer shock/rocker with the srad arm

Reason for the question, is I have a bare srad swingarm with no rocker/shock and wondering if possible to combine the two - that is use the old rocker/shock from original slingy swingarm onto the srad arm

If no good I'll need to be sourcing a rocker and shock to suit

Cheers Watto

alfiestorm
12-09-2007, 04:11 PM
I am in the shed tonight so I will check to make sure but i think you can use the slingshot suspension rocker arm. I'll let you know for sure later today.

alfiestorm
12-09-2007, 08:17 PM
Right then been in the garage and tried all combinations srad suspension linkages then slingshot linkages and a mix of both and I am sorry to say none will fit without some modifications. Ah the joys of fighter building.

Just goes to show no matter how much measuring you do and things look like they will fit along comes reality and kicks ya in the nutz.

I look upon this as a chalange to be conquered and the results will be published on here as soon as a fix is found.

WATEVR
13-09-2007, 12:08 AM
good to here its all coming along mate hiccups and all!! i will try and catch up with you soon.

alfiestorm
15-09-2007, 09:30 PM
the problem is the space for the shock to pass through on the srad arm is much smaller than on a slingshot arm.
To make this fit is going to involve new suspension rocker arm made and dog bones plus a shorter shock or weld in a new top shock mount into the frame.

My other easier option is to brace and shorten the slingshot arm so I can keep the look I am after, which is what I am going to do and save a shitload of time fucking about with the suspension

WATEVR
16-09-2007, 09:30 PM
similar to what i was thinking with the ZX swinger mate just get the original one braced

alfiestorm
21-09-2007, 11:43 AM
I am now just waiting for some info from one of the guys on the oss site who has done the srad arm to slingshot change.

Stu

have been in touch with dave from OSS and details as follows

quote

Hello buddy, Right then. On the bottom end i used the standard slingy linkage and a slingy shock. I dont have the dims of the top mount anymore [which is a pest] but basically all the top mount does is stand the shock clear of the arm, the sock ends up a little more upright [which is how it is on a K series bike]The best way of finding out exactly were the top pickup needs to be, is to sit the swinger in the bike set at 12 degrees slope. With the bottom linkage sat at the correct [resting] angle [as on the slingy] then quickly knock up some makeshift dogbones to the new required length. Fit the stock top mount and shock with the spring removed. You will nedd someone to help with the next bit. Move the swinger up and down until you have the correct angle on the shock so it clears[again check my pics as the angle is easily judged from them. Then measure from the original pickup hole in the top mount to were the eye of the shock non needs to sit. That is the new mounts dims. On the swingarm spindle front use Ali as its less off a pain to machine. OD is the SRAD spindle OD, ID is the slingy spindle OD overall lentgh is from inside dust cover to inside dust cover on the SRAD arm.
I hope this helps, but if its still a bit unclear dont hesitate to say and i'll try and clear it up a bit for you.
Good luck.

Sounds like a good idea and later fit a gixxer 1100 engine if you want to.
If the gs is going cheaper than cheap thing get it. I used to own a gs1000e years back cant fault them.

Yep 12mm is all that was needed. I have used some alloy plate each plate is 4mm thick so it gives me the option to add more if I need to in 4mm sections either way the problem is fixed.

Just gotta make me some spacers for the slingshot wheel spindle so it dont rattle about in the srad arm adjuster slots.

Yeah Gix the goal is for the bike to be ready for the AFR if for some reason it ain't I still got my R1 and Blade killer :D to use [^]

Put the new camchain in last night and the APE manual tensioner also done the valve clearences and thats the engine almost done.
Just waiting for the clutch and cover gasket, sump gasket then it is mechanically done.
All that will be left to do to the engine is degrease and paint and a few bling bolts and other bling bits here and there.

I am fitting the sump from a bandit 600 as it has the oil line fittings at the front and they will screw straight in unlike the original sump that was on it which used the banjo type fittings underneath.

I am welding up the redesigned subframe next weekend and getting it finished ready for paint which I am doing myself, hope the paint turns out ok

Here it is holding it's own arse up with out the need for supports.
Most certainly not the most tidy looking welding jobs but it is good and strong and by the time I have finished it will look ok anyway :D

I have made up some templates for the gap between the seat and tank that will be incorperated into the seat when I retrim the front section.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention I well enjoyed doing the ally welding myself fuckin yeah :):)

I plan on becoming very competent at it and get some better equipment in the not too distant future I hope and if funds allow.

I am using a cheap mig machine I got off of ebay (china special) at the moment, all up it has cost me $450 that was for the machine, Argon gas regulator, Auto darkening helmet and a roll of 0.8 aluminium wire.:)
The gas bottle is courtesy of work while they are not using it.:):).

I'm liking that a lot Stu. Love the Z duck tail always and to see it pointing skywards is cool. You're going to have to watch your nuts with that seat angle mate!

Yeah I am quite pleased how the whole seat tank thing turned out :D.
As for the nutz just have to wait and see if it hurts once the new bars and footpeg arrangement are fitted.

yep that's right I am selling the project off. I have lost interest in it and just cannot be bothered to build it I have found riding my gixxer is far better than building a bike and far more fun. I think I will buy a ready built fighter later and make any changes as it is being used.

Everthing is up for sale except the dyna ignition system and oil cooler.

I have just rebuilt the 1216 engine and fitted a bandit 12 gearbox it is sweet[8D]
