Holy shit... wire wheels *drools*

What did you need to do to make them fit etc?

SPOKIE DOKES!!!! Shit hot man!

Rear is 17x5.5 [8D] and front is 17x3.5

Front was easy as I used the Sport forks. Got Ben to make up a new front axle about 7mm longer than the Ducati item to suit my GSXR triples. If the tax man is generous this year front calipers will be Beringer as below, if not 4 piston Brembos (tho brembos have clearance issues and Beringers don't).

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f108/edgarbrits/Gsxr%20to%20Cafe%20Racer/SC1000-Beringer-iron-discs.jpg

On the rear I'm using a CBR-929 rear axle, I'm turning up some tophat spacers to fit the axle to the arm, (a custom axle is on the drawing board), Watto's old swingarm, shock & mount (all went together beautifully :)). Rear brake is once again std Ducati part, but it's over slung single piston type on a non torque arm bracket (it's really close to the brace).Realy want an under slung twin piston .

Little bit of an update.

Decided to have a go a shape for the seat unit. Trying for the classic cafe racer look, but I'm trying to work in similar curve above the rear wheel like the new Nortons have. Duct tape is just amazing stuff :D

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f108/edgarbrits/Gsxr%20to%20Cafe%20Racer/tailreduced50percent.jpg

If anyone has an eye for this kinda of stuff I really need some help. Just aint my strong point.

Personally it's just a tad too bulbous in the tail, you want to keep it nice and sleek. You could either drop the top surface 50mm or so or angle up the lower edge (depending on the subframe) to give it less visual bulk.

This is a bit too far the other way for a bike the size of the GSXR but you get what I'm talking about

I was thinking it was a a little bulbous as well but it kinda matches my fat arse. There's no subframe yet so everything's still open. I haven't put it down under it's own weight yet. So angles may have to change.

But thanks for all the encouragement.

I'm more in agreeance with Rod and Kev,the bulbous tail gives it the cafe look.

I love the tail but reckon it should be a bit shorter? Eg the seat part looks too stretched for single-seat cafe racer.

My thoughts exactly. Bring it to single seat propotions and it will be a lot shorter and tidier.

This kinda size:

or this at the max:

So maybe finishing the tail in about line with the rear axle ?

I think I made the seat area only about an inch or 2 greater than the front half of the original section. But it's easy enough to cut off some more.

Gix11
19-05-2011, 12:57 PM
Yea, that should do it. Keep hovering over it though so you make sure you still fit comfortably. A nut crushing seating position is not ideal.

sen

Depending on comfort of course, I reckon something like this length:

Mate this is lookin real good, I do agree with Si & Sen, and the photochop that Sen has done its just about right.
You want enough room to move forward or back on the bike by about and inch each way. Factory stock seats give you way more room then that. Just my 2 cents.
Wheels look bloody awesome though!

Blade

Those wire wheels are awesome, I think it is a little bulbous in the rear but at the end of the day if you like it that's your call its your bike!

Just ordered Beringer calipers & rotors in red (not yellow as in pic). Should be here in 3-4 weeks or so they say. Once I recover from the shock I'll get a matching rear Beringer caliper as well.

As a side note, have the motor mounts and stepper motors on the way for the mill. Then I need to order ballscrews & nuts and some couplers.

I think I have decided on my tail, roughed this out today. Apologies for the crap photos, can't take a photo to save my life.

I was thinking about covering the foam with something to protect it from resin, do a layer of glass then use some filler and sanding and mold it to the tank to make the final plug, does this seem to be the way to go ?

I'm loving that tail mate. The curves are looking good

bladehunter
10-12-2011, 06:09 PM
Been called all sorts of cunts before but never the clever cunt. Loosely based on the Norton 961 tail.

Spent ages cutting and gluing the main spine & ribs from cardboard. Tho I really fucked up and mis-measured me foam, well didn't read the callipers properly, so every rib ahd to have an extra packer. Thought I'd fill the gaps with that expanding foam, only to either cut or sand 99% of it away.

Is it just me or did the rest of you spend all most as much money buying tools as you did parts ? Least the tools are a tax deduction ;)

The tail's not for me, but if you look at my build I have the piontys't highs't tial ever

can you just fibreglass the tail sand it body filler etc paint it then take a plug off that ,by the way that tailpiece rocks its going to look cool with those wheels

bladehunter
11-12-2011, 03:34 PM
Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I've given it a coat of filler to get it closer to shape. Then I'll glass it, fill it sand it until it's right then make a mold.

pav69
11-12-2011, 05:51 PM
id be making a good mould you may be able to flog a few see how it comes out
