Oh my god for some reason I didn't even think of asking about this cos I thought I would have to goto a mechanic or Katana specialists. It's taking me ages mixed with boredom on my holidays to read through the old posts on this forum. I got really excited when I saw a old post from Ozkat!!!!!!!!!! HaHa no it wasn't a dirty letter post!!

I am going to change my rear rim on the Kat and was going to use the bandit set up BUT then I came across an old post from Ozkat. He has used a gsxr 750 rear rim but used the standard swing arm and it worked.

Is Ozkat still around because I would really like to mimic what he did? Or does anyone know how he did the whole thing(sproket, axle, disc and caliper)

Doh I didn't think to even ask this question but I guess it's kind of turning it into a semi streetfighter. [:I][:I]

Ozkat doesn't really frequent this forum any more.

From memory it's a 94 gsxr 750 wheel that slips straight in. I'm not sure about the brakes.

There is a 96 GSXR 750 that I have my eye on but just wanted to check first. I noticed he said if anyone was interested and let them know how to do it so they don't have the same trouble. I'm wondering what problems he had.

I've got a couple 5.5" rims off a 90 model gsxr, one's got rubber on the other hasn't, pretty sure I've got 2 4.5" wheels as well one with and one without rubber, various GSXR sprocket carriers and caliper hangers and calipers. If ya wanna duck over one weekend you can have a play around and see what works.

I'm pretty sure 5.5" is a tight fit. Another thing one of the guys from South western wreckers at the El Toro estate near Liverpool has a trick Kat, he might be worth a call.

Hey Matt, I've done a 17x4.5 conversion on my 1100ET which is the same swingarm, it wasn't as staight forward as I was told. I used a 1988 GSXR750J rear wheel assembly I had to swap a few spacers around and also ended up shimming it a bit for chain alignment. I also run an offset sprocket that I got a mate to weld up for me, so I could centre the rear wheel properly. Take a look at my build thread here.

Thanks bladehunter I might take you up on that offer once I get it all worked out.

Hey 80s freak I don't have alot of times on my hands anymore(except for the 3 weeks I just had off doing sweet FA) I'll be going back to work soon and work pretty much 6 days. It sounds like you had so much fun doing that to your bike you'd like to do it all over again. Would you be interested in doing it again for some bucks? I noticed you also have the speedo I'm thinking of getting.

Have these wheels got straight spokes or swoopy ones? I may be interested in one of em...

An RF900 rear wheel will also fit and the sprocket carrier has the same 6 stud pattern as the Katana therefore eliminating the need to buy GSXR sprockets. These are straight 3 spokes and 5.5" which is the max size that will fit in the rear of a kat I believe.

The Acewell speedo unit is great! 35,000kms on it now, been fitted for a bit over a year. Never had any problems with it. check out S3performance.com.au they are the australian importers.

5.5in wheel 4.5in sproket carrier. Combo of spacers from both wheels. Easy to do. Chain does run close to tyre tho.

Does the tacho just not read or not read correctly? I'm tossing up to go digital or just smaller analogue guages.
