Hey guys. Ive just picked up a new Mig Welder and am now chasing up some gas for it. Ive got a few questions.

I have a CO2 cylinder at home I bought a while back, it been poorly painted grey but where the paint is coming off I can see it is a blue cylinder. These things are colour coded right? Whats the best way to tell if this cylinder is up to holding argon?

If its no good.. Am I better of buying or renting? If renting where do I get it from with out to much hassle.. ie no ABN etc. Renting seems more economical for a hobby welder like me..

I buy argon from Welders supplies in Brookvale (I think they've got an outlet in Abbotobad near where you live)

~110 for a big bottle and 44$ a quarter to rent the bottle.

Dnt kno where u can buy a cylinder from. Even better luck tryin to find someone who will re-fill one. I am a boc agent on the south coast n we rent them out. Argon should be a green bottle. Blue from memory is originally 'medical' nitrous oxide. Co2 is grey. For straight argon u'l be lookin at $112.82 for a D size bottle or $163.86 for an E size. On top of this boc charge rental for their bottles wich is around $40 a quarter. U do not need an ABN and a cach account can be set up in about 1/2 an hour~

There is a mob in sydney selling bottles on ebay and they offer a refill not sure how much cheaper it works out at though I think a bottle was around $400 from memory.

a lot of bottle sare rentals only i think its a way of keeping control of them and the age of the bottles being used.

Yeah redmo, thats where I got my CO2 bottle from for my home brew, but for welding gas I cant justify the 3-400 for something im not sure how often ill use.
