Who's got a van and what do you think of it?
I want a late'ish model say 2004 onwards, also NOT LWB.

So far i'm looking at the,
Vito
VW transporter
<s>Toyota Hiace</s> Jen hates it....
Nissan El Grande
Hyundai ILoad....
What else should i look at?

I need to be able to,
Put the bike in the back so nothing jacked up high.
Get 4 downhill bikes in the back (same overall size as a moto but can be packed tight).
Set it up for camping.
Have seats for my homies to go cruisen for bitches.

Yes i know the A-Team van is rad but it doesn't suit my needs.

The Hyundai ILoad is meant to be really good a few people in the factories around me have them & swear by them .
I've got a Transporter (LWB) which has been a great van, people say they are expensive on parts but I haven't had any issues so far, the only thing it doesn't have is the double sliding doors which the Vito & ILoad have, This would be a handy feature, mine is a 2.5L Petrol & travels really well on the Highway even when loaded up.

Also being FWD means the floor height in the rear is nice & low.

I forgot to say the Iload, thanks Ben.
What year is yours and has it done many k's?
Why did you get the Petrol over the Diesel? Or didn't you have a choice?

I really like the double sliding doors, they are cool as.

Vito's are good new plenty of power and nice to drive but don't age well anything more that 3 years and it drives like 10 yeaers(could be that ours are always loaded)and being euro built things like brakes don't last all ours need new rotors at or before the first pad change. After market rotors fixed this so we get 2 sets of pads before we need to change rotors again. Servicing is a pain and repairs are expensive. Mazda are under powered. I have run Toyota's, Madza's and Vito's the Toyota's shit over the other in way easy to drive, plenty of power, reasonable for parts and repairs just a shame you can't have one.

I have a T4 Transporter too, mine is the 5 cyl oilburner & it' s a heap of steaming shit because it's FWD so it doesn't go sideways in the wet, as far as power goes, it wouldn't pull a sailor off your sister.
It has been reliable tho, over 400k & not using oil or blowing smoke & it's never had new sparkplugs.
Shitloads of room in the back for 2 big roadbikes + gear or 3 trailies.
Seriously mate, get an old Bedford CF shorty - we both know you want to - they are sex on wheels [:p] & all the cool kids have them ;)

Thanks yella, the van is more for my wife than myself so it really comes down to what she wants.
I just don't want to buy a shitbox.

The last time i checked an Iload clutch including dual mass flywheel was circa $9000 and there was only one in the country genuine only no aftermarket product yet....

that might have changed in the last 4 months though ....ill check tomorrow for you

Those ILoad's are meant to be the shiz Ivan. Been chattin to a few tradies at work who ave em, and are more than happy with them. Pretty competitively priced at 32k new as well. Thats compared to the Vito's at 40k. They all reckon ya can fit a shitload of stuff's in em too.

If you're going to buy the Imax I'd be buying the diesel because our friends have the petrol auto and it wouldn't pull the skin off a custard. Our 12yo Mazda 131 with aircon going will outpull it hands down. The power output is sluggish to say the least. The upside is it will fit a football team with room to spare. They're a massive van and then some.

We chose the KIA Grand Carnival over it because we liked it more and the V6 has a shitload more grunt than the poxy Imax petrol motor. But it suited our needs and was within budget. I'd think for what you want it will be a little too small as I wouldn't like to try getting bikes and passengers in the back simultaneously. And the roof would probably be too low.

Ive got a Vito(108cdi diesel), Ivan, and love it..
2 roadies/3 mx bikes fit no probs, i've also had 5 dh bikes and 5 blokes packed in(got seats that clip in and out- and bikes with front wheels off).
Servicing is a bit exxy, but 25000k intervals so its really not that bad.

I like the merc to drive over the toyotas etc as you arent over the front so much. Having said that, a mate has just got a new hyundai and its sweet.

Not to mention a pile of utter shit. Work had one when I was up in Gladstone and it was forever fucking up. From memory the engine wiring loom was replaced twice under warranty and it seemed to always have a broken door handle/piece of plastic somewhere, all on a vehicle < 2 years old. Went well when it was running though.

It's a pity you don't like Hiaces. They are the most reliable van out there. I've done 3-400,000ks in my last 3 hiaces, with not much more than just oil changes. A mate just recently bought a VW T5 (i think??) and it fucked some kind of seal between the motor and gearbox, the parts were cheap, bout $70 in total, but the labour was just under $2k,as the motor and gearbox needed to be dropped out,the get job done!!!

fit two road bikes with work or 4 mountain bikes no prob! They even make a 4wd version lol
