View Full Version : 1 Cylinder running rich

Hey guys, I was fiddling round with my colourtune today and noticed one cylinder was running really rich at idle. Now its not the mixture screw, putting that close to all the way in makes no diff, carbies are balanced, and that side of the bike appears to be chewing through a lot of fuel than cylinders 1 and two. (im using 2 powerade bottle as auxiliary tanks while im tuning and the one for that side of the bike is emptying a lot quicker than the other).
What part of the carb should I be looking at? I recently cleaned the, but dirtiness wouldnt explain the extra consumption.
Any ideas?

Did you take idle jets out ? Did you put them back in ? lol Or leave one loose ?

No all the jets are in place, floats are set correctly. The only thing I can think is that something is either up with my choke circuit or there is a bit of dirt clogging the pilot maybe.

Are all the jets the same size? Check that the needle and seat are sealing correctly

Yeah all the same, the main may be a 147.5 instead of 147 (I ran out of 147s), it wouldnt make that much difference though. Ill pull it all apart and see what I can find out.

I mean the pilot jets.

I'd check the mains for size anyway.
Some of mine have been drilled out so the no.s don't mean anything.

May be related to my floats and seats etc. The fuel levels in my carbs aux tanks arent holding the same, it appears they must be flooding overnight. One was empty.
Would this mean I'll have to dump my oil aswell?

Potentially. sounds like needle and seat for sure

Holes blocked on the side of the emulsion tube.

Check the pilot airjet, if that is blocked then it will pull much more fuel through as there will be no air bleed through the pilot airjet. Whilst you're at it check the main airjets as well, as there will likely be some bleed up the side of the needle with a high vaccum at idle.

While on the topic of carbs, my factory pro kit called for me to plug one of the holes in the slides, what is the benefit of this?

That would slow the slide rate this is normally fixed by using a heaver slide spring the heaver slide spring helps stop side draft lifting the slide on the move, this may be what is happening to you now I think of it.
You could make some pod covers to combat this?
