All local county fixed site speed camera`s are being turned off tomorrow. (Northants UK).
All Gatso, Tuvelo and Specs.
They will be taken down by the county council later.
Main government has pulled local funding for them.
They arent the first and will not be the last.

Noz, did you hear ? [:p]

This place is one of the few areas where the fixed site camera`s seem to be in the right places. You memorise all camera locations as much as you can anyway so the fixed ones were never an issue for me.
You think "ahh camera coming up slow down". ;)

In some areas of the UK where they have removed them already, the death and serious accident rate has stayed the same or gone down.

Mind you the 4 mobile scamera units are staying, they are the tough ones to spot and the ones used in pure entrapment locations.

Yup, each county is adopting a different policy with camera`s.
Main Government has pulled all local council funding for just about everything including the "safety partnerships" (private companies) who are running the speed cams. So the local council can`t afford to take up the running costs in thier budget. Once the "safety partnerships" had taken their overheads and cost of wages, ALL income from speeding fines went to the main UK government and none came back for other road safety spending.

It was just a tax revenue scam.

Oxford speed cameras turned back on:

Although you have to beware the UK police`s political "spin". It could have just been an increase of 1 or 2 deaths over a year ?

The counties of Avon and Somerset turn off their speed cams:

Annual UK road accident deaths down despite camera cut backs:

But for "other" reasons, nothing to do with speed cameras.
