Hi guys and ladies.
I have been busy playing with my project and also trying to get around some red tape and Vic Roads imcompetence.
Anyway, I have posted some pics of my progress so far.
The black fly screen wil be getting some orange paint on it soon.
It will be staying like this untill I get it on the road.
For that I have to get a VIV certificate and a engineer certificate regarding my lights. Its a long story.
Please let me know what do you think of my project so far.

Cheers.

The color is KTM Orange with a touch of gold pearl over it.
Hard to notice the pearl effect so far.

does look good mate,I like the Speed Trip fly screen,is that a genuine Triumph part or aftermarket item? What top clamp and bars are you using? Cheers.

letoy
18-03-2007, 10:36 PM
Hi there.
The screen is a genuine 2007 Triumph item.
I also used the standard headlights mounting brackets and modify it to take my instruments.
The lights are aftermarket.
I used an ABM top clamp, and fat bars.
That and a few more bits come from Stu at Austreetfighters.

Cheers

Looking good! Very nice. My 12r used to be that colour but didn't do the pearl effect....

I reckon you should leave the visor black mate, it looks clean and breaks things up a bit.

I tend to argee with zx12argh as well mate. Painting the screen orange will add a lot of visual weight to the bike. The black is not a problem as you have the black theme in the shape of the forks, the seats, the engine and the undertray. If it was blue then you'd have a problem!

I agree with these blokes and maybe paint the hugger black too.And your brake lines look a little convoluted to me .

Hi there HueyonaBlade.
I have had the bike for nearly 2 months.
What takes the longer is waiting for parts, but that can't be helped.
The rims are at this stage just polished. Haven't decided if I will get it Nickel plated or not.
I did my XJR1300SP wheels and it come up quite nice.
I actualy did sub-contract for the boys at Electromold a while back dismantling customer bikes and general maintenance.

Hi there sickboy.
I am having problems making these brake lines look neat.
I think that I got issues.
On being the lenght being too long and the other is the bend on the banjo fitings.
I might have to contact Stu and ask what can be done about it.

Thank you for looking

The bike looks sensational!
As everyone else has said, leave the screen black!
That '69 Racing' sticker REALLY cheapens the look of the bike, IMO.
What mirrors are those?

Daz.

letoy
19-03-2007, 08:37 PM
Black it is.
That was my first decision but I obviously have friends with no taste that manage to convince me......Thats my excuse anyway.
I now want some of the clutch and brake levers that Stu has but need to save a bit of money first.
Our fine goverment will take $440 for a VIV, plus about $500 (I hope) for an engineer's certificate for my lights plus registration cost.
Anyway, its all good. Or for a good cause.

The sticker is to come out. Was left there by the previous owner.
The mirrors are from Stu at Austreetfighters.
It comes with the bar weights.
I am not sure yet on how eficient it will be or if it will pass a RWC(I doubt).

After the majority of people comented on the fly screen, I decided to leave it black.
I also found out that I need to get VAS certificate due to my mods.
I had it inspected last friday and all that I had to do was put an ugly flap with a reflector on the rear mudflap.
This was expected. I am still waiting fot the engineer to let me know about the mirrors.
I was surprised that he let the muffler go through.
He is a friend of a friend. Thats problably why.
Now I have to concentrate on my Diary for the VIV certificate.
I also contacted HEL brake lines regarding the angles on the fittings of my hoses and the guy there was very helpfull and asked me to mail the hoses to himn and he will rectify my issue and no charge.
This is very good of him since I din't even buy it through him.
Anyway, this is what I am at with my project.
Also, as some of you might have noticed I was looking for some fairings so that I could get this bike through the VIV.
Vic Roads realised and they gave the wrong information at the start and after listening to the phone records and with a lot of pesistance from me they have agreed to register the bike as a naked and not as the manufaturer sold it.
Sorry about the long boring post.

Hi there frankenbiker.
I got it painted at the Motorcycle Paint Clinic in Recervoir.
$600
Jo painted a CB900 B'ol D'or for me a few years ago and did and excellent job then too.
A collector up in Queensland bought it of me and love it.

Bugger.... I thought that the price was ok.
The tank was sand blasted, then there's the tail piece, mud guard, rear wheel huger, chain guard and the front mudguard.
I think that its reasonable.
I know some other guy in the area that does top work but its a bit dearer.

Hillsy
29-03-2007, 09:15 AM
I reckon that's a good price for a decent 2PAC paint job. I got an old GSX painted about 7 years ago and it was in the same price range. And that was the cheapest around at the time. You've done good.

I just ordered some nice levers from Stu.
The next stage will be to buy a second hand rear sub-frame, converting it to a single seater (no room for the wife then).
I would also like to either make up some sort of belly pan.
Maybe some Nickel plating and anodising.
Not sure yet.
I also want to paint the engine covers. Possibly relocate the overflow botle.
Its all wants at this stage.

Really the next stage will be putting it on the road.
I now got a engineers certificate aproved.
Tomorrow I got it booked for R.W.C. inspection and hopefully next week will be the VIV inspection.
After that will be registration time.
Man, I am tired already.....

This is the second bike he does for me.
We are both into computers, so we tend to spend a bit of time chatting about it.
Having said that, I think that the price difference wouldn't be that much.
I think that he is just a reasonable guy.
He works alone with no overheads.
Starts working at 1 or 2 pm until 2 or 3 am every night.
Its handy because you can go there after hours and look at the progress.
His delivery times are normally a bit out.

those levers look trick!! is there some sort of cam lobe on the bottom for adjustment. i see the arm on top
very nice

letoy

There is a cam with 6 different positions.
This cam operates onto a small ball bearing with gives a positive feel while changing positions.
Also, the adjustment range is very usable.

Hi guys.
I am adding a few more pics of my progress. I am curently working on modifying my old bellypan to suit.
Yesterday I spent a few hours on the lathe machining some air intake tubes.
I also got a screen moulded (ZX10 I think) and I re-shaped it a little to mount it onto my Speed tripple fairing.
I found that without it, the sun would shine onto my instruments making it hard to read my idiot lights.
There is the addition of my new muffler and mirrors but I have already posted that elsewhere.
I will also be removing the four engine covers and painting it in some sort of black.
Anyway, I hope that you enjoy the pics and sorry for the long boring spill.
Please don't hesitate in making sugestions.
Thank you.

I like the screen idea - brings some black back into the equation.
I know this probably ain't possible, but I reckon it would look better if you could somehow bend the ram tubes to make them face more to the front (??)
And time to black out the frame (which reminds me I still have to do mine....)

Nice work letoy - I like it.

Hi there Hillsy.
Thank you for your coments.
I am with you regarding the frame.... but at the moment I can't be bothered dismantling it. maybe next year.
With the ram tubes, you are right that it would look better with it facing forward but I would have to make it on a NC machine and again its all time and lack of will. I am a lazy fuck.

The ram tubes won't be a problem as long as you connect the carb balance tube back into the airbox to ensure this gets the same pressure.

some nice work there. Really like that end can and the levers. When you can be arsed doing the frame, a nice little touch is to smooth/french the welds around the ram intakes[ or other hidden welds that can now be seen]] as the hidden welds on the kwak are really untidy. I used a chemical metal[ the stick of stuff with the activator in it that you mix together]. I then shaped it over the welds and sanded it smooth. I did not want to grind the welds as i was told it can weaken the joint by one third or something.
Anyway keep up the work.
