someone starts to tell you that the laws relating to written off vehicles are different state to state so your motorcycle may not be able to be registered??

well I have..................!

took the ex CRUISECONTROL bandit for it's SA rego I.D. check and was told that because it has been recorded as a "write off" in N.S.W that if it hasn't had the same type of inspection at re-registration as required by Transport SA (full roadworthy inspection with receipts for all parts used to repair and all invoices for any repairs carried out) then I have to have that inspection done by Transport SA and show all the relevant receipts for the parts/repairs and if I can't they won't register it.

so now I have to wait on the inspector to send an email to the R.T.A then wait for them to reply to state what type of inspection was carried out at the time of re-registration, could take a week if I'm lucky!

oh and the nice inspector also pointed out that my bare alloy rear mudgaurd had to be painted black so it isn't "reflective"

so I asked if I could have a chromed steel mudgaurd and he said yes that would be fine......................!

And,every year,it'll get worse and worse.
Fuck, what are the laws in England??
I think you can get day time rego,so long as you only have a brake light,or whatever. And rego anything with a headlight and brakelight.
I can't imagine people dying left, right, and centre on dodgy bikes over there.
Australian rule makers will kill any streetfighter scene we have here, within a matter of years.
I've read recently, that its only a matter of time, where anything not standard, could be defected soon. It's fkn stupid

mate I found same situ when I bought a gixxa1000 from Melb and tried to get it rego'd in WA - had been listed as repairable writeoff in NSW and the fella in Vic I got it form had a similar issue but neglected to share that with me when I bought it - had to jump through a few hoops to get it done but got it all sorted (thanks to Morry and the crew at Motorcycle Masters)

Seems like the more people you can squeeze into an area the less bull shit vehicle regs. Just look at what you can get away with in California, Florida, Texas the UK and Europe. Then again shit weather, crazy drivers and more crime. Still prefer Oz.

I had exactly the same thing with a stuntbike i bought Mike, the other states dont recognise NSW's repaired status..
Complete bullshit!

I was lucky enough to find a good vicroads inspector that had dealt with the problem before and finally got it sorted out.
$800 bucks later mind you..

Good luck with it mate.

Well soon enough you wont have to worry about all that. NSW wont have any repairable bikes or cars at all, all stat wright offs! I feel for you EFE, coz it would be a huge kick in the balls not to be able to register at perfectly good bike. Good luck mate and i hope you get it sorted sooner then later.

I've hit the RTA website up and paid $18 for a "Vehicle History Check" and found out the following

"This vehicle has previously been recorded as a repairable write-off in NSW or interstate due to collision damage, and has been repaired, inspected and cleared for re-registration."

So now I wait to see what Transport SA has to say about things.

Did you print that off mate? if so take it to the SA people and show them the paper. That should shut them fuckers up.

If all else fails big bloke, would it be possible to buy a good not registered as a write off frame in SA and swop all the bits over, The reciept for bits would be from the one you got when you bought the other bike interstate, Maybe ?

Well that would be nice but if they don't get the correct answer from the RTA it means nothing.

I was hoping it would have given more details of the inspection but to me the way it's worded it's the correct type of inspection required by Transport SA.

From what I've been reading about all this re-registering bureaucracy the chances of scoring a "legal" frame to do that is very doubtful due to how VIN no's are recorded these days and because I would be using parts from a written off vehicle I would need all the original purchase receipts from when it was sold as a "write off" to be able to get Transport SA to rego it which I don't have.

For some reason the NSW RTA is the only rego authority that Transport SA can't access via their computer system so all this hassle could be sorted on the day.

its probably cos the nsw rta doesnt HAVE a computer record
thats my experience anyways

every time i re-rego the katana they need me to show them the engineers certificate
how fucking hard is it for them the scan the fucking thing and keep the file!?!?!!?

I rang CC (Dan) this arvo and got it straight from the horse's mouth as they say....

bike has had full RTA inspection for re-registration with Dan supplying all paperwork for purchase/parts/repairs complete with photo's and he has the RTA documentation stating that it has been inspected and passed so it looks like I'm in the clear and Transport SA can be told to go and get fucked........ after I get my new SA no plate...........

Hi all I read this and had to register as I am having the exact same issues with transport SA.
I bought a 2006 GSX1400 from NSW, did a Revs check and it came up fine. Then I found out to my dismay at the inspection the bike was deemed a repairable write off and I would have to pay $$$ to get a T3 and road test done on it. I contacted the old guy I bought it off of and he claimed he knew nothing about it been in a crash, he then gave me the details of the original owner he bought it off of in 2008. I sent him some emails and he replied informing me the bike was involved a low speed slide, the fuel tank was badly dented, the rear cowl was cracked and the mirror was broken off. The RTA deemed it a repairable writeoff. He had the cowl, mirror, engine side cover and tank replaced then had it inspected, it was given the all clear and he reregistered it, then sold it to another bloke in NSW.
I bought it off him last month. Now its going in for its inspection this friday but I was told i need to provide all the receipts from the repairs........ D: I got in touch with the original owner and he said they were all submitted to the RTA when the bike was inspected and seen it was 3+ years ago he no longer has any copies but the RTA should have it all on their computer. (I also paid $18 to the RTA and they said the same, vehicle inspected and cleared)
Yet the guy at the inspection office said it was not acceptable. I spoke to a more senior staff member and he said if I cannot get the receipts I should just provide as much information as possible but there was no guarantee it would be passed. This is a complete headfuck. There should be one governing body, not each separate state making up its own rules. They don't take any responsibility anyway for the inspections, its a complete waste of money and a day.

It's a head fuck isn't it!!

Are you waiting for a phone call from them?

If it comes up as being a repaired write off in the RTA website $18 check and it states the bike has been re-registered then your OK, Transport SA will email the RTA for confirmation and when it comes back as has been inspected for re-rego will issue up the paperwork without further inspection.

Then you just front up to the rego office for the new plate and away you go!

It was a regional inspection, they only accept inspections done in the Metro area:(

Have you tried to get copies of the paperwork from the RTA?

I was told that as long as the bike received the same type of inspection as required by Transport SA then they would accept it for rego nothing was said about regional vs metro.

An inspection is an inspection it shouldn't matter where it was done if all the correct requirements were met and the RTA re-regoed the bike.
