I thought i'd read somewhere,DOT or Snell approved helmets will be ok to ride with??
Maybe that varies between states,or it applied to trackdays/race meets???

I know a couple of guy's who race at the drags in Simpsons.
I have be told they mine is NOT legal for road use and that
another less biker-friendly cop could ticket me for it.
Not sure how true that is.

I think,if you're wearing a reputable brand helmet, and it has all the other standards on it,the cop would have to be a right cunt to ticket you for it.
It's different if you're wearing a 25yo helmet,or some cheapo chinko $10 ebay special, coz then i'd probably give the idiot a ticket myself.
I've been seeing a bloke riding a newish bike around the last few months, and he's been wearing a helmet that was older than what Barry Sheen used to race in!!It's seriously that old and crusty,i cant even take my eyes off it,to actually see what he rides.
I'm sure there must be a ticket in that somewhere??
If not,i'd give him a ticket for being a right tightarse!!!Buys a new bike, and short afew hunge for a new helmet!!!WTF

That'll be the same Qld cop's that measure the angle when handing
out tickets for fender eliminators ?
...or the same cop that hands out the tickets for having the wrong
shape (tube type) rego holders ?
Its not common to get you lid's standard checked, but there ARE
cop's out there who do, and think its Xmas when they find one.
The only other downside apart from the cop's is insurance.
Putting in a major claim for what may be life changing head injuries
is giving them a possible get out clause with a non-legal lid.
Just like everything else, (like my speeding and loud pipes)
its all about risk assessment and choice.

If it doesn't have and Aus standard sticker on nit it's not legal for road use in Vic having said that I have been wearing my bandit alien 2 for almost 2 years now without a prob

as far as the old crusty lid goes if youve got a 2 bob head get a 2 bob lid personally mines worth a bit more than that ..not much mind you

quote from A.N.other site
"Some good news in this debate is that Qld Transport will be acknowledging the Euro standards as of 01-07-2011. My understanding of this is that people will be able to buy Euro compliant helmets from outside Australia without the AS sticker. From what I have read it took a consumer challenging Qld Transport in the courts to bring about this change.
On a side note the supply chain is a little more complex than just bumping up the price because of AS/NZ 1869. I don't think anybody is surprised to see products cheaper in a markets (US/GB) five times the size of that in Australia."

I wear Simpson all the time and never had an issue.
Sounds like we might have a win in Queensland with Euro standard helmets. Doesn't happen very often here but I still wont hold my breath on this one until I see it in writing. Qld transport have never had a grip on reality or even a basic understanding of engineering.
