I've swapped front ends on my little tracker project and need to shorten the forks by about 4". What i've done is put a DR600 front on a DR500 (to gain the disc brake) but the 600 forks are about 3" longer than the 500's and I want to drop it about another 1" while i'm at it.
Would it mean I have to chop the fork leg and get it re-threaded and then chop the spring or is there a fuckload more to it?

This will shorten the travel, but it is the easiest DIY way to do them:

Another quick question, would the amount taken from the left and added to the right double the reduction?
For instance, if I lopped 2" of the former and added it to the latter, would the fork be shortened by 2" or by 4"?

The spacer under the damper rod (IE the bit on the right) dictates the fork height. So, put a 2" spacer in there and your forks are 2" shorter regardless of how much you take off the other spacer.

Thanks for that (again)
