i just did a mock fitting of my fuel tank and it goes together perfectly ect but decided to put some fuel into it. and fuel leaked out where the fuel gauge sender is. there is a big oring between the tank and the sender which i did put back in, do i need to use some sort of sealant or anything to make sure it doesnt leak (if so what type)? or would there be another reason it would leak?

I'd check to see if the o ring is seated correctly, and is in good condition, not cracks, not dried out etc

I would say that it's a use once only o ring, so if you remove it you have to put in a new one when it goes back together as it probably is a "crush" seal jobbie.

Local bike shop should be able to get the original. Bearing shops have O rings but you need to get one thats ok for petrol etc. How old is it as the rubber O rings in your petrol tap might be on their way out too.

petrol tap seems ok, its on the opposite side of the tank and doesnt leak. im sure this oring hasnt been changed since new (15 odd years). looks like a trip down to teamhomo it will have to be.

cheers! have a good aussie day!

Go to a bearing shop. The black nitrile oranges are suitable for fuel. It will probably be metric. To work out the size measure the ID of where it sits and the thickness of the section and that is the size you are chasing. Eg 35x3.5. They available in whole mm diameters and the sections are in .5mm increments. There are also some imperial sizes close to some metric sizes as well. Should only cost you a dollar or less. Any more than that then they are ripping you off
