Hey guys, I've just finished cutting off the excess brackets from my GSX1100 period 5 build and have ground and cleaned all the surfaces. Is there anything that I should be aware of before I start adding frame bracing ?? I'll brace all the normal places as per the yoshimura guide but not sure if there are any steps to complete before I start or do I just jump in and start ?

Any advice would be great.

If its any help I can scan a sketch I have of the bracing requirements for Rob phillis' superbike which he campaigned years ago.

this information came from Mick Hone.

Thanks mate. Anyone have any understanding of any prep work required before you can start bracing ? E.g. do i need to put the frame in a jig ? Should I have the crank cases installed while the frame is being braced ?

Putting it in a jig is best but you can have it straightened after
I would how-ever recommend having some engine cases in and a swing-arm.
tolerances can close up when welding, making for difficulties later

If you are putting cross bracing in above the swingarm pivot, then I'd fit the swinger and engine cases to ensure the frame doesn't pull together during welding.

there is some gr8 articles on frame bracing on www.olskoolsuzuki.info From the main page there is a link i think. Goes into detail about the processes used for early kat/gsx frames. Might be worth a read moz!

Go to oldskoolsuzuki, gsx/efe/kat section, Under "articles" section, click on "Making the GSX frame stiffer." Should give you everything you need to know.
