Got a new chain and sprockets today and I don't not got no riveting tool. Is it worth the bucks to buy one for the job or is there another simple and effective method to get it done?

Cheers.

I use a sledge hammer, a normal hammer and a centre punch, never had a problem yet.

I've never had trouble with the clip style chain joining links. And you can seperate the chain any time.
What do you guys think??

even having had one joiner (clip style) come apart once a long way from home!!! i think they are more practical as to be able to remove the chain if neccessary. personal preference really cos they wouldnt supply them if they didnt work!!

If you've got a small capacity/low horsepower bike the clip type chains are fine as long as they are fitted properly. But on a 750cc plus bike I would only use a rivet type. If you've bought a chain & it comes with a rivet link USE IT, & if you've bought a chain for a 1000cc+ bike & it came with a clip link, take it back because the chain wont be rated for your bike. Strong chains only come with Rivet links.

just use a centre punch, hammer and dolly.

then roll the edge of the pin over slightly using the ball end of the hammer.

I read it all on ASF!

it works too.
