ive hit most of the wreckers hillsy and no 1 has 1 , ive found a bloke on ebay whom has a frame so may have to start there

I'm going to put the sunglasses on and the trenchcoat before making this statement but .........Ahem............ I actually rode the Mother in Laws CX 500 for a while as all mine were in bits and well I've gotta say I was impressed I enjoyed it, nice note with the right mufflers too.

yeah im really likeing the CX 500 and they look sharpe when there cafed the right way they look kick ass

They are a hard bike to cafe and make look good due to the stupid rounded rear frame hoop near the shock mounts (the CM400 was the same). Makes it hard to fit a traditional cafe seat and make it flow, but that red one above is probably the best one I've seen (the builder is a member here www.caferacer.net).

I saw a lightly modified CX500C yesterday that actually wasn't that bad. It was halfway between a cafe racer and bobber style and ended up better than it should have on paper, I'll see if I can get a snap next time

Well that's a better start for a cafe than the cruiser style CX anyway - even if it needs a bit of a buff.

Just don't be tricked if its got a huge flat spot and you start thinking about tearing the carbs and rubbers apart !

i destroyed more Cxs than i care to remember on londons roads
things to watch for :
ceramic seal on the water pump,{ bugger to replace leaks into the engine past the camshaft seal or into the alternator and fuks that }

bent pushrods

carb diaphragms and acclerator pump diaphragms

rust in the swing arm gusset makes the arm twist and can fuck the diff splines

electrolitic corrosion on the early Comstar wheels

avoid the turbos[over complicated and naff all extra power ] ,grey import 400's[gutless],and customs[just plain weird handling]

best of the bunch CX650 eurosport,stronger frame, prolink rearend ,more get up and fuck off

yeah they sounds like a nightmare jim but im sold on the CX and i like them as a cafe racer so the plan is to make it strong and will keep what you have said inmind and try to make sure those things wont fail me
