Good luck and may I win everything!

OK I happen to have had a 1978 XS650 arrive into my carport late last night and so now I've decided why the fuck not. I'm going to take it to next yrs NFR (funding permitting).

I have already started on making it go. I took a jaunt down to my friendly Yamaha dealer this arvo and purchased a new Battery to replace the one that was in it which had dried up yrs ago, so brake fluid to bleed the brakes, and some other stuff which may or may not work. But I also purchased a new set of plugs so I'm kind of optimistic that with a new battery in there and some fuel it will kick over and do magic fucking.

Oh and I'm already in trouble with the Mrs for wanting to have the bike in the bedroom and the battery on charge in there as well. Apparently the laundry is where the civilised world does these things. Who'd ever have thought???

Anyway here are a couple of pics taken by the previous owner of the bike. More to follow tomorrow when I make a fool out of myself by trying to start the thing!

I'm trying to do it as cheaply as possible so I will be changing the bars, but I'm not sure what style I'm going to wind up with.

Right now I'm kind of tempted to drop some flat bars into the mix but otherwise I have no idea. It's in such good condition it would be a shame to cut and shut it too much so we'll see what happens once I start I guess.

yep! clip on`s would look cool, or drag bars. stock bars are 7/8 so you can do whatever ya want...bobber or cafe racer look is easy with xs650`s, and no frame mods to worry about!

Ok lads I've decided on a direction. I won't be revealing it just now, but I'm sure it will make everyone smile when it's revealed. And if you don't like it you can just fuck off!

Sen you're a cunt! I love those tail pieces but the one I really liked is around $400 including postage and they don't take returns. So kind of shit really cause if it don't fit then I'm fucked....... Mainly because my total budget for this build is $2k. It has to be running and RWC for that as well as built so if the parts can't be sourced cheaply they don't go on.

I'll post some pics of todays fucking round shortly..

O.K. here are the pics I took today.

I grabbed the chance to spend some time with my 12yo and it kept him amused and from annoying everyone else in the house for an hour and a half so I'll call the mission a success even though I hit a snag or three.

The old battery was dry. Like nothing I've ever seen before. But not to worry, the new one is in and fine!
