Here's one for the computer gurus. I sick of getting Junk faxes, it drives me Fuckin insane, does anyone know of a program I can download or buy that will allow me to receive my faxes to my computer without having to pay a monthly subscription. I still want to be able to send faxes from my fax machine though. I can't believe there isn't a fax machine on the market that has the abliity to preview a fax before printing.

Do people still use fax machines? I thought it would've been replaced by scanners and email.

yup... you just need a modem, then windows has a fax system built into it

Just go and buy a cheap shit usb fax modem. then i'll talk you through setting it up if you want.

Hi Ben

There's plenty of free or dirt cheap applications that will do it for you such as

http://www.spyfind.com/bitware.html
http://www.encoderx.co.uk/fax/

or if you're running Vista or Windows 7 there's a pretty good fax app included. Does the PC have a modem built in? If not I'm pretty sure I've got one lying around here.

I'm just down in Manly and am very happy to sort it out for you if you'd like now that I'm an unemployed bum, it would need to be next week. Let me know

cheers

Yeah it's not by choice, some suppliers will only use faxes so ya gotta have one.

The ADSL modem won't do it, as it uses completely different tech.

You need something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/External-USB-2-0-DATA-Fax-Modem-56Kbps-V-92-Dial-Voice-/250688879029?pt=AU_Modems&hash=item3a5e38b9b5#ht_4533wt_907

That particular one would be good because it has a through line so you can still have your regular fax plugged in as well.

Ah ok thanks.
Also I have a shared line ie: Different Fax/Phone numbers on one line.
Currently my fax can detect when a fax is coming through the fax number & it automaticly receives after 2 rings, will this feature still work with the computer software ?

you should be configurable in whatever fax software you use and windows 7 actually has really good fax software.

I'll come past next week and set it up, your laptop should already have a modem built it (most do) and we can use the Windows 7 fax software so the bits are there (apart from a couple of cables which I'll bring). You would then set the laptop to receive all faxes instead of the machine and you print out the ones you want

Hi Ben, I'll drop past this morning and see if you're around. I'll need you to point out the different outlets/lines and how you want it configured and we'll take it from there
