View Full Version : Radial Caliper Adapers/Brackets for Axial mounts..

I've been thinking about mounting some 108mm pitch Radial calipers Brembo/Nissin/Tokico's to my 03 R1 forks with adapter brackets..

This won't be the first time or the last that this has been done.. you can even buy the brackets ready made to fit Kawasaki ZXR's and all the 90mm mounted Gixers/Bandits/TLs and Busas but not for R1..

I mean my front end is fine, my current brakes are fine.. I just like the idea of maybe some BXP brackets (If EXBEN is willing to fab them when I figure out what they look like dimension wise) with some gold ZX6/ZX10 Tokico's bolted to them just something not so much different, but not often seen..

I was wondering what your opinions were on this.. seen as though the cost to make them + calipers maybe just as much as chasing up some 04+ R1 forks and slipping them on... Do you think they would look stupid? or have some other comment on the matter??

Cheers..

Hmmm....look a bit goofy to me. Also, the idea of the radial caliper is to have a more robust mounting point to reduce flexing in the caliper / mounts. I think retro-fitting these to "conventional" caliper mounts using adaptor plates would probably defeat that purpose.

Does look different though.

Yeah totally agree, I don't think braking capacity will be affected for better or worse, seen as though they won't actually be mounted radially, at least I would hope they wouldn't be worse off than originals..

interesting you say post this up gitzy , im looking at adding radial brakes to my busa , but im doing it the expencive way , im useing GEN II front wheel assembly and bottom of ther forks , but looking at what you have posted is got me thinking .

cheers

personally i think it would be a waste of money/excess weight to add the adapters.

Would sure look different though.

Agree with the rest of the guys here, it defeats the purpose of radial calipers altogether.

What about the option of putting new radial fork lowers on the existing stanchions? I'm not sure where you can get them or they could be a customer EXP job, maybe pickup a bent set of new forks and steal the lowers?

bit of a thread about it here

True It would defeat the purpose, Also I don't think I would take that route, I think it would heaps easier to just replace the forks with some radial R1's as they slot straight on and sell my current forks to regain some coin buuuut anyone can do that, If I do go my route and get some brackets made, I'm not concerned about any excess weight and I don't think the braking ability of the bike would be effected for the worse, The R1 has more performance than I can handle plus I ride like a girl.. I think I just want them for the 'Wank" factor.. :)
