Saw these pics on another forum. Owner said he got it as a $700 wreck, and it's cost him $12k to build.

Looks great. Way too much mone spent I reckon, but thats just me. Saying that I often look at the build budgets in SF mag n wonder what theyve spent it on tbh. Suppose if you have to farm out jobs then costs skyrocket.

Only rode an XT once. My mate stacked it into a ditch first day out after test n collecting bike.:D I went round bend, looked in mirrors n he hadnt. Knobblys n tarmac.[:p] Rode alright tho n sounded nice on open pipe. Badoom, badoom, badoom. lol.

hey Large
what was the other forum you found the pictures on?

i've been lerking on here a while now and was very suprised to find my little project on here!
but thank's for the comment guy's
i agree 13 grand is a bit steep but what are you going to do?
it just sort of got out of control you know
i ment to spend about 6 when i started it
but can't stand doing half a job....so there you go
and the only work i "farmed out" was the lacing of the wheel's
the dent removal from the alloy tank, powder coating and chrome work
and Carl Batey at Caferacer did the head work put the carillo rod in the crank and dynoed it when it was finished.
i did all the machining, painting and procrastinating my self.
by the way great forum.
regards
Muz

Ahhh budget tends to blow out a little, I know all about that.. My mates use to give me heaps for spending so much on my XR..

It was $7400 new in 05 but I purchased on finance took 4 years to pay off and cost me a little over 10k with interest then I decided to motard it.. $1900 for wheels and tyres plus plastics/blinkers/lights/chain/sprockets/bars etc etc all up I've spent close to $14000 on a chook chasing XR which I would be lucky to be able to sell for 4k.. I could have bought a new KTM or Suzuki motard for that kind of coin, but I spent that money over years of work, was it worth it, in my opinion Hell yeah.. each to there own I reckon.. I enjoyed doing it and would do it again.. Love your XT mate, work of art..

That swingarm pivot wont last long with the chain at that angle.....and WTF is with the wheelbarrow back tyre?? Could have been an awesome bike, but it's overpriced and ghey.

Well done Muz, that bike gives me a stiffy! The only bike I have ever bought brand new was a 1981 XT500. $1,900 on road from Kevin Frazer in Nth Wollongong (back when Wayne Gardner was the parts boy). I loved that bike and no matter how hard I rode it, I couldnt kill it! That bike taught me how to wheelie, seated, standing or kneeling on the seat. I just wish I could afford one these days (without having to sell some internal organs that is).
