why not go 320 wide and just ride in a straight line all the time ? lol

320's are so last year.

It's all about the 400 now.

The physics of it mean it will be worse, just from the increase in unsprung weight and extra gyroscopic effect.
In addition to that you have the fact that on single track vehicles, when leaned over, the greater the difference between the centre plane of the wheel and the actual contact patch, the less feel you will get, which is exacerbated with a greater tracking differential between front and rear wheels when using a conventional size front tyre.
This is one of the main reasons why 125 and 250 gp bikes with their skinnier tyres handle so much better than motogp bikes, and why the moto2 teams have been asking to be able to use a narrower rear tyre.

BANDITROD

fair enough that makes sense

Shadowzone
26-10-2010, 04:43 PM
So Tony the trick then is to use a larger size front tyre in order to compensate for the difference?

I've ridden my mates GSX1400 that Ben built and it actually handles a little better than it did before. I was sure it was going to be shit but it was really good, a real eye opener !

That would compensate for the tracking differences, but that would be more than offset by the greater gyroscopic effect, extra unsprung weight, and lack of feel.

The GSX1400 really was a good surprise, maybe the front end conversion also helped but honestly the whole package is pretty damn good. Once upon a time I would never fit one to a road jap bike but after riding his I wouldn't hesitate to fit one if I had it in my budget. Sure you wont get your knee down on it but you can certainly still get a fair pace on, I've got a few mates that can't keep up with him riding it and they would still be a decent average rider on similar style bikes.

And I thought going to a 160 wide tyre on the back of betty was abig step lol

i've ridden a sss 240 reared K6 Thou , it was 6 '' longer than standard and running an 18'' rear, now when u fit these kits u get 2 new (heaps fuggin less weight) wheels... It ran super coarser tyers... Luved it.. Even got smoked by it throu the hills, (leeroy was on it).
U do notice it when banked right ova(well u wouldn't)((little fella)) they drift way better.......... whoolies dont tend to loft as quick and its easyer to go round bends in the road on the back.

looks fully sicker than lance's pissy 180....

Lightweight wheels are the key to making a big rear end kit handle reasonably well but anything over 240 is very detrimental even on a carbon rim due to the profile of the tyre. Until Pirelli bring out that Ducati supercruiser rear tyre with the triangle profile...that should help things nicely.

And yeah Scotty, any links or prices............

Just gone from a stock 200/50 down to a 190/55. Much better.
A little bit of "go" beats a whole lot of "show".

I presume you're talking about your BKing Tony?
When I did the same it was really noticeable, wouldn't like to think what it would be like going the other way.

If you need a price for a 240 kit they start @ round 5 and a halfish

Dropping the R1 back from a 190 stock to a 180 always made them handle better too.

Plus my chicken strips were then non existent.

I love the look of a 250 ass end but doubt I could afford to buy one let alone keep it in Rubber.

Do you mean the wide tyre coversion kit that this thread is about? Unfortunately the Kawasaki Z750 motorcycle that I am modifying is a little outside the normal streetfighter paradigm and as a consequence it takes a little longer to have a bespoke conversion manufactured to suit my specifications. At this point in time, I'm not undertaking regular employment so I have decided to keep myself active by pottering in my vegetable garden, but alas, the weather is conspiring against me and I'm stuck indoors. Never fear though, whilst not perusing the interweb and cronically masterbating, I've placed a call on the telephone to Mr Wise. Oh, and the wheels and tyres that I have purchased for my Supermotard style motorcycle are here so I am going to endeavour to fit them this every afternoon.
Attempt that on Fornicating citrous aquatic animals!
