You're gonna have to excuse the oncoming rambling in this post, this thing has been in the works for a long time and I work away at sea so I'm getting more and more excited about it as the chopping block closes in. I lie awake at night on the ship every night dreaming and scheming about what this bike is going to be, so I'm gonna get it all out of my system here.
So yeah, I'm 22 and this is my second time fighter'ing a bike. My last bike was my first bike, a 2009 LAMS SFV650 (gladius) that I think I did pretty well with, all pretty cheap(ish) cosmetic changes which in the end actually turned it into a real head-turner (gladius' are fucking ugly bikes, imo) and a pretty mean looking "lamb in wolf's clothing" streetfighter (won SV of the month over at svrider.com >> here's a pic

I got rid of that (I'll miss the v-twin noise :( ) and got myself a 2005 zx10r, the computers here at work wont let me upload pictures so out of interests sake let's say it's more or less exactly identical to this except for a different yoshi pipe and different tail tidy:

(a pretty dumb move going from a LAMS 650 straight to a ball shredding machine like this, I mean, when I first got it and rode it out of the delivery depot I was thinking "HOLY SHIT THIS THING HAS GOT FUCKING BALLS" as it screamed off down the West Gate freeway howling between my legs... and I am still trying to get rid of the erection.
So I hear you say "idiot! that bike is too much for yoU!" but hey, birds learn to fly by being thrown out of the nest... and I want to fly... so nyer [|)])
The reason I got this bike was a) because the CBR1000RR I had my eye on got sold and b) I saw this picture on customfighters and knew what I had to do
http://www.customfighters.com/forums/imagehosting/301949dba95bd147d.jpg < I saw the raw sexiness of this thing naked and knew that it would be the perfect place to start, and all the past year or so of browsing forums and drooling over other guy's builds will soon manifest themselves into the dream fighter I want to make.
So I've already started getting parts in, I've ordered this alien mask from streetfightersinc
http://www.streetfightersinc.com/images/ShowyAlien2small.jpg
I'm about to start looking at ordering some of those KOSO gauges (unless anyone has any better suggestions...?)
Also emailed outlaw about ordering some of those serrated brake levers.
I'm going to keep the clip-ons, I don't know what it is but the upright bars thing has just never rubbed off on me. I've seen some sexy as fuck fighters with uprights but they just dont do it for me, and I love the down, aggressive racing position from clip ons. I still have a young, unbroken spinal column so I'm going to get the most out of it while I can.
Once I do everything I can do I'll take it into bikecraft and get the trickier parts like wiring etc done (my electronic skills leave a lot to be desired) and any machining/cutting that needs to be done. And while I'm at it, I may as well ask this:
***According to a guy with an 05 ZX10r over at customfighters he said he had to "shave" off the front of the RAM air intake between the forks to get his mask to mount nice and close and still be able to turn... do any of you have any objections to this?*** I casually asked a mechanic and he said "logically there shouldn't be an issue but the sensible me should really say you should never touch the frame of a bike, but essentially all you're doing is shaving off the end of a pipe so there shouldn't be a problem"
do you tend to agree with this? I couldn't see much problem if it was done professionally.
So yeah, essentially that's what I'll be doing. Mask, bar-ends, get a nice little rad-overflow bottle fabbed up, thinking just a simple stainless bottle, get those serrated levers, if the bellypan already on the bike doesn't work with the fighter look I may have to look at ordering another one but it looks like it could work with the main fairing removed, already has a radguard, tail tidy is pretty much done, the gauges, eventually when I get a new job I'll start looking at chucking a buell tail on the end and see what I can do about arranging a single sided swing arm but that's still a while away yet, I'll just get over these first smaller steps first then start working on the ass end later on.
Anyway... thanks for letting me vent out... I got told I had to before posting elsewhere... hopefully you can see where I'm going.
Great site guys... lots of great looking builds on here and I look forward to building my dream.
cheers
