Ok,I've been skulking around here for ages.

Been tinkering away on my bike for a while now,and thought I'd start to post up a bit of a build thread.

This is what i started with,an ebay bargain,a cheapy CBR900RR 94 model.
Someones already had a go at streetfighting it,tho it was alittle ghey!!

Im hoping to make it cooler.

I personally like the look of the Blades frame when they are fightered.

I hate the rear end.It looks fkn massive.

So i got the grinder out, about the only tool in this build i actually use in my day time job,and started butchering.

While i was at it,I pissed off tyhe shitty rear standard shock, and bolted in a Sachs Rear Ride Height adjustable shock, from an Aprilia RSVR.
It was a straight swap, tho,if you're keeping the standard subframe and battery box,it wouldn't fit.

I've cut and shut the whole subframe.
I made a big jigsaw puzzle with all the offcuts off the subframe, and took it to a local alloy welder, and he put it all together for me.
Nice old fella, and obviously pretty easy going, being able to put up with all my stupid questions.

While i had the grinder out,i had a go at the exhaust.

Bought a flat collector, and got a baffled box welded up,and this is what i ended up with.

I know, not alot of thought went into the look of it,i just wanted simple, but after my first right hand corner,i managed to drag it on the ground,so i have modified it since. But this is what it first looked like.

I've got more pics, and im still doing more to the bike,so they'll all get on here shortly.
Im just not that good with computers,so it takes me ages to upload, resize, etc etc. so when i get free time, i'll sit down and post up afew more.

Besides the older styled front fenders, I love the fat right way up forks of the early blades.
Is that a 16 or 17" wheel? i know lotsa guys upgraded the front wheels to 17".

Keep it up, it's looking good so far.

nick76
12-08-2010, 10:31 AM
I did have the standard front end and 16" wheel, but thats all gone now.
I've put in a front end off a 2007 Blade, and i think it looks heaps better.

The old front end is for sale,Clamps, wheels, calipers, axle, front mudguard,if anyones interested?
Not sure,it could be an upgrade for and old cbr600???
Doubt the front wheel will be though.I think i read somewhere amongst these pages, that drag races like the 16" front??

nick76
12-08-2010, 10:35 AM
Yeah,el sammo, the muffler box look alittle gay,its better now i've attacked it again with the grinder.(photos soon)
Gotta love grinders.
I don't know why you stunter guys don't put them under your bikes? It would save having to get your hands on another muffler when you fuck them up stunting.I guess the undertail ones are fine, its the ones near the swingarms that must get fucked up??

For my headlight,i couldn't decide what i wanted,so i had a go at it myself.
Again,i cut, ground, bent all the alloy, and took it to my local welder to tack it all together.

I bought two of these projectors off egay, they were cheap, and off a Can am Spyder 3 wheeled thingies.

It didn't come out aswell as i'd pictured in my head, would've liked to have made it abit smaller and compact, but, thats as small as i could make it,with these projectors.

I wasn't happy with it when i first finished it,but its starting to grow on me.

I am loving the theme on this bike. Don't usually like themed bikes so thats saying something!

I keep going back and looking at the headlight. At first I went 'omg yuck!' but I keep looking at it and I'm kinda liking it a bit? I dunno. You need a shot from what you'd see sitting on the bike, and side on. It does look pretty chunky and retro in this pic though!

But it goes with the transformers theme.

Kudos to you for making your own though!!! Thats a pretty awesome thing to be able to claim!

nick76
18-08-2010, 07:41 PM
I was trying to get away from the transformers theme!!
I thought taking off the Transformers badges on the tank, and T'formers painted headlight would do that, but that light still sceams it,doesn,t it????
Spewin'!!

Shit,I might have to fork out the big bucks and get a nice one, just dont know what.

I do like the look of those LSL lights

Yeah it does,Mrs Gitzy, thats what im not happy bout, but i couldn't get the lights closer together, and couldn't mount it closer to the frame, coz of the length of the projectors

MrsGitzy
18-08-2010, 07:49 PM
Gitzy is giving a pretty nice one away :P

Yeah the headlight screams transformers haha sorry. But then, you don't have many pics of the paintwork other than the first one that does have the badges on the tank etc. More piccies please!!

With my(very)limited skills, ive managed to transform the muffler box into something that looks like a BBQ!!!

Nice work Nick, I'm liking your homemade parts mate, I think the whole transformers theme is cool.. could you maybe adapt your headlights into something like this??
I'm not taking the piss, I think it would be cool..

nick76

Are you sure you're not taking the piss????

Maybe some small projectors could fit in that helmet thingy above?
It would be different, tho i might have to go the LSL or some stacked dominators to try and get away from the transformers theme.
I haven't even seen the movie yet!!!

MrsGitzy
18-08-2010, 09:13 PM
If you're any good at being creative, get some plastascine, sculpt a headlight around that helmet toy thing, then put projectors behind the eye sockets.

You need the headlight to be way smoother than the actual plastic thing. Hence the plastascine.

If ur gonna go dwn the stacked dominator route be careful with what brackets you use, i did it & the brackets failed 70k's out from Cooma! Not fun! But thats another story 4 another time!
How r u gonna go gettin rego with that stumpy tail mate? Worried the shortness could become an issue!

nick76
19-08-2010, 04:55 PM
Gitzy, thats the light i originally wanted.I like the angle eye bit aswell.

I searched and searched for ages to find a pic of a bike with that light on it,and when i finally did,it looked shit!!
But in that pic you've posted,i think it looks good.
I wish i'd seen that pic afew months ago.

I should've asked you if you had a pic,coz now i know,without a doubt,you have a pic of everything!!!!

I know you have every streetfighter pic ever taken, and just about every porn pic aswell, all in folders, blonde, redhead, bigtits etc etc, for easy finding!!!

Nah,not worried,its still rego'd,and its fairly easy getting pinkslips,it's got lights,indicators etc,can't see a major problem.

I originally was going to totally chop it,like the bladerod, but was worried bout the fact there was nothing behind the seat, and it would cause me dramas,so thats why i made what i did.
It's not much shorter than a buell,and they're a 2 seater??

Try harder mate, the puppies will come out and play one day I reckon.. lol

anyhooo I think that this tail would look super fucken duper on your blade, not sure on your tastes, but I would purchase it if I were you and if no good pass it on to someone else on here.. but with your subframe making skills I immediately thought of you, it's got that angular agressive look to it, and could pass for bio mechanical, plus you already have a trick looking brake light you could fit to it... your thoughts???

So,what are you saying Gitzy, you don't like my arse???

Haha.

That tail would look pretty good i reckon,i just like the look of a short/stumpy tail, like the buells, that one would hang out past the rear wheel.
How bout putting it on yours???
If i have dramas with the cops,i may have to attatch something like that over mine???

Gitzy
25-08-2010, 05:02 PM
Lol.. nah your ass is tops Nick..

I like my old skool R1 behind, its one of my favourite tails and its stock so I'm cheering..

I don't reckon that it would stick out too far, atleast not as far out as the wheel, could ask Pete to measure it?

I reckon it would be very similar dimensions to Dannyboys Blade with the r6 tail..

nick76

I thought id better post up abit of an update on my blade.

I've put on a complete 07 blade front end.
Forks,triples,17in front wheel, radial calipers and m/c,and standard front guard.

I've also ditched the headlight.
I got a tip off gitzy, and got myself a set of dominators from www.cjaccessories.co.uk (http://www.cjaccessories.co.uk) They were cheap, bout $110AUS delivered, and i fitted them, stacked style, with some more garage made brackets,to suit exsisting fork clamps.

http://i.imgur.com/L4Ig1.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/WcLdV.jpg
I took her for a test run.It ran like a busted arse,so i ended up getting a dynojet kit for it.

I also picked up a tailriser for Thurn Motorsport.
It raises the rear end of the bike approx 30mm at the seat.
This will work out well with the shock i have.
I installed a Sachs height adjustable shock from an Aprilia RSVR.
At its most extended setting,it was 1mm shorted than the standard Blade shock,so now i have the abillity to wind back the ride height, back to standard height,if i wanted??

http://i.imgur.com/nhlRX.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/RiWuY.jpg

Took her for another test run today, and she went quite well.
Jettings alittle off still, but 100 times better than before.
And she handles quite well.Doesn't like the bumpy/chopped up parts of road, but once it smoothed out abit, felt quite planted.

I'll never ride it as fast as my motards around the twisties, but still felt as good as any other road bike I've ever owned!

I'd previously owned a Modern Z1000 with ZX6R/ZX10R front and rear suspension, and no matter how much i tinkered with it,it felt real vague, and i just couldn't ride it with any confidence.I was worried the same might happen here, with the blade, but luckily, its turned out tops!!

I've got just the one, shit, bar end mirror on my bike. It's fuckin totally useless and hated it.
I finally picked up a pair of these,

http://i.imgur.com/AyLms.jpg

$99 on eGay,and surely they've got to be better than the crap i had on there before!!!!

Hopefully the blade will be still all good to go,for the NFR ride!!!

The new head light looks heaps better Nick

nick76
30-10-2010, 04:48 PM
Yeah,i reckon too Rod.
I'd visuallized a much smaller/slimmer set up with the last one i'd made, but just couldn't do it with the projectors i'd started with, and lack of tools, and skills didn't help much either!!!

Yay..........its my 1000th post!!!!

Since i sold my bike to driftdave.......i think he did very little to it.....it's since been sold to BOBBY on here, and it's moved back alittle closer to me!!! Im wishing BOBBY didn't buy it as quick as he did....as i woulda loved to have bought her back!!!

BOBBY has had quiet afew electrical drama's with her since he's got it.....but he's sorted them all out now!!

Sorry bout that Bobby,i never had a drama with her in the time i'd had it.

He's asked for some build pics, and when i went back to this thread.....i realised none of my pics had moved over with the new forum set-up....so i thought i'd relaod them up again......and Bobby can show me what he's done to it since he's owned her!!!

Hopefully all his electrical dramas are all over now....and there's many trouble free rides ahead of him!!!

RevHead
17-10-2012, 05:00 PM
that is one cool looking fighter Nick, has it been re-painted

nick76
17-10-2012, 05:20 PM
I really liked the way it came out Pete.....it only really needed to be pulled apart and painted properly...(apart from the electrical gremlins that set in afterwards).
At NFR 2010,the jetting was wrong, and it just wouldn't go past 190 in the open sections, but in the twisties, even in the wet,it handled fuckin awesome.

I dont think its been painted up yet,just a re-shaped/re-covered seat.....and all the wiring/electrical drama's sorted.

Im hoping Bobby puts up afew pics....

Got some new crappy phone pics.
Changed the exhaust 3 times now. The "power BBQ box" started to rattle real bad from inside so I broke out the aldi stick welder and grinder and started cutting.
The under slung can is the 1st attempt its a cut down stock Cbr muffler.
Turns out that welder and a combination of my shit welding skill didn't do a very good job and the welds cracked after 60kms.
The 2nd attempt is well... Loud!!! I got my hands on a gasless mig and started cutting again.
It's the stock Cbr mid pipe slash cut. Looks tough sounds wicked ran like shit.
I rode it like this for a couple days, it was running lean up high so decided to buy a proper pipe made by a professional (it's debatable I know)
The last is a danmoto carbon gp can. Looks ok sounds really good and made the bike run much better.

31483149315031513152

I think I've figured out why it didn't like going fast Nick. These blades don't run a ram air feed. Since all the fairings are off the airbox gets pressurised wrecking the jetting. I taped up all the gaps around the tank and radiator and made some shrouds out of a coca cola box and tested it.
FARK ME! I thought this bike was a dud. I've read where guys have trouble lifting the wheel in 2nd gear without the clutch so I thought it was normal. After I sealed it up it lifts the wheel with ease in 2nd and will run right up to 200 easy.

Now I have to make up something to replace the dodgy looking tape.
