My mate would say yes. She did 4 years for killing her fella who was trying to strangle her at the time. She just managed to grab the nearest thing to hand and hit him with it - happened to be a knife that hit the subclavian artery. She considers herself a murderer. I don't. I see it as she is the victim and survivor of a horrific assault. It's actually the best thing that could have happened to her because she got all the help she needed in prison, way more than any of us would get outside. She now helps others in the same boat.

Laws of the land... brings us back to the original post and the main bugbear of people about some immigrants. They are in our countries, thinking they are beyond the same laws we have to abide (well most of them). I think that's what hacks people off - the special treatment they appear to get because they are foreign. We don't get that in their countries and it's not fair or right.

An atheist would argue that there is no god to make judgements. Others would say we were made in the image of god, so therefore as falliable as this entity that no one can prove does/doesn't exist. Faith is a powerful thing.. and that's not a bad thing. It gets us thru life one way or another.

I think that someone who leads his soldiers to war under the false pretence of fighting evil, when actually they are there to get the oil... is evil. How many were sacrificed for that greed? I like how those who say they don't judge are often the ones to tell you aren't living your life according the bible and that you should change lol... not all, some.

errr don't you mean 65 years?.

Two things the nukes did was- Save lives- A lot more Americans and Japs would have died if the fighting had carried on into Japan

Also as surt said, by using the nukes the Americans shgowed the russkies they had the weapon and the will power to use it, and it kept the russkies out of the pacific

I disagree with your mate also. But you know most of us are our own hardest judges. And I wasn't there and don't know what happened or what caused it. I do agree she should never have been subjected to it to begin with, but that's the thing about life isn't it, I believe God gave us all our right and ability to choose for ourselves who we wish to be. So her bloke chose the wrong thing at the wrong time and she chose to save herself. I applaud her for having the strength to help those who are in a similar situation. She sounds like a wonderful woman.

With regard to telling everyone to live their life according to the bible or "my way", my way works for me. I claim the right to worship the Almighty God, but also allow all men the right to worship where, when, or what they may. If that's horsepower as someone mentioned earlier in this thread, then so be it. I don't agree with it, but they have that right. After all the respect MUST go both ways or it is truly hypocritical. And what makes my way better than yours? I seek guidance on living my life in a decent manner from religion. If you don't need it? Then you have the right to decide not to. I did need that guidance, and enjoy my Sundays at church and with family so it works for me.

As an Athiest I follow the "No god to make judgements" deal , having No Religion or "faith" I live in what is considered by many a country with lots of freedoms and space compared to other modern countries of the world. And yet without faith or religion I manage to meander through life generally doing good deads and avoiding hurting others without direction or guidance from others. For a well balanced person it is natural behaviour to treat others as you would be treated. It is genetically programed into us, the crap of the world pushes the easyly persuaded to "want" and "desire" things unnessasary, always more bigger etc. Evenually alot of these sheep turn to easyer means to gain what they are conditioned to desire. And lie cheat and hurt others to do so, religous or not.

I do not follow or accept all of my countrys laws, and consider alot of then unnessasary and stupid, written for control of the sheep. So why would I begrudge others new to my country from the same ? My law is the only law I live by , luckely most of my laws are simmilar to my countrys but not all. I have the death penelty for a start, try to take my life or the life of those I care for, and you forfit your own. Again, rape, torcher, interfere with children and you may find the same fate. I'm happy to let all others live by there own ideals/laws as long as they dont interfere with me or the people in my sphere.

It is just common sence to me , Problem is common sence seems to be not so common now days. For instance common sence would tell most people not to turn up on a strangers door step last sat morning at 8:30 and bang on the door preaching the way of the lord. As this may wake the person and anger him enough to report the person to the police for littering to the local coppers (also giving them him rego number lol) as he dropped his papers on my door step when told politley no thanks.

Bush couldn't win either way.

On one hand he was bad for waiting days to help out those in New Orleans, and on the other he was bad because he secured vital resources and ousted a dictatorship in the Gulf.
Should he have ignored those raped/tortured/murdered people in Iraq forever as he did to his countrymen down South for mere hours ?

Thanks Gitzy, I needed that! :D

Redmo: I like what the alien in the movie K-Pax said, "every creature in the universe knows right from wrong".

NoZ: How dare you bring this thread back on topic?! :P

CC: The leader of any nation ought to first get their own house in order before concerning themselves with the affairs of other nations. If the money spent on <s>oil</s> terrorism wars had been spent on the homeless/healthcare etc, then how great a nation could America claim to be?

You credit yourself as the ultimate anti-sheep but fall for the biggest load of spin since the moon landing was declared a hoax...
Do you honestly believe somebody could become the president of the US with absolutely no brains whatsoever? Or is there a distinct possibility that the left wing PC brigade took whatever they could get and just ran with it (and fortunately for them sheep were prepared to listen).
Lets not forget that the messiah Obama didn't even know how many states were in the US during his campaign for president.
Give him enough time and the right spin doctors and he will look as foolish as Bush did.

Yep, knew the ani was last week but saw the 55 in another post and didn't check it. Course it was 65 years. Mass genocide does not justify ending the war for Japan though mate. Like Italy was the enemy in ww2, not all Italians agreed with their leader and left. Like my great grandad - walked accross Europe to the UK to start a new life here. Never took a hand out and was painting his leanto 2 weeks before he died at 94. Hitler put most of his population in camps. So where is the reasoning that the population of Japan was behind the war? Yet they had to suffer as much as the rest of the world and then have 2 atomic bombs dropped on them. You think it was the gov that ended or the war or the people telling the gov 'fuck you' we don't support this? Maybe...

Yes because if this topic is gonna gooooooooo way off in new directions, then lets discuss the secret organisations that control these puppets in power. Skull n bones club part of the Illuminati, masons.... before the da vinci code, I saw a documentary on how these people of potential power join a club way back in college that helps get them there and then they have them by the short n curlies. Bush got the job cos of his dad, his religion and the fact he's the biggest puppet of all. His gaffs are endless and well documented. If this guy was in your workplace, he'd have been sacked for gross misconduct and massive incompetence! And Blair crawled up his arse and died. Hand over you spine when you get in politics and insert the pulleys lol

They left Iraq to suffer all that rape and torture for 10+ years. They never got Saddam out back in the first war there... they funded him ffs and when it got so bad the world demanded action, they went in and secured the oil and then set about sorting the country out. It didn't get like that over night... those people had been crying out for help for years! But there was no profit in it. The war on Iraq was illegal. It may have freed those people but it was still illegal. I think they should have shot the c*nt back in the 90's when they had the chance and there were plenty of them.

New Orleans was a poor black area... they left them swimming in the soup of their dead! It wasn't until Hollywood slammed Bush for inaction that he went in. Suppose they thought they were saving money on welfare payments? Note how Omama went straight in and called a national disaster with the oil spill though... lesson was learnt! But they shouldn't wait for someone to pull their strings before saying 'hey those people are suffering, lets help them'. It's beyond common sense - it's common decency. Like Red said, we all have it within us to be a good person who helps others just because we can... you don't need religion to do that. It's the right thing to do... so do it.

I don't believe that Obama, a well educated man did not know how many states are in the USA! But saying that, how many counties are in the UK (without looking it up HOS lol) and how many states are in Oz? Know it off the top of your head cos I sure as hell don't lol

The latest is how Ecudor is making the west pay billions of $ NOT to plunder their land for oil... cos the west are snide fucks and will find a way to get that black gold and under the rainforests of ecudor, there's loads of it. But it's ok to have oil.. but when there's no forest left, no ozone, they will be still rich. That is immoral and inherently evil in my book.

Again, my point which you missed, was that the bombs saved lives. Not only did they save American lives but a lot more japs would have died if the war had kept going. Japs weren't known for surrendering like the Italians were.

If you were the commander of US forces and you had a weapon that gave you the choice between killing a few hundred thousand of the enemy and possibly ending the war or sending maybe 100,000 of your countrymen to their deaths....what would you do?

While impressive to you, your great gandad's story isn't that remarkable from my place in a country of migrants.

quote:Hitler put most of his population in camps.

lol not even close-

To be "most" it would at least to be more than half the population in the camps...but then who was fighting the war?. Try reading up on the camps- you might find out how many other countries the victims came from.

When did I say that?

Have you heard of Hirohito? Unlike Mussolini, he was looked up to as a god by most of the population, and the japs were a lot more willing to throw their lives away for him than the italians were for mussolini.

How many kamikaze squadrons did the Regia Aeronautica have in WWII?

How many Italian officers committed hari kiri rather than surrender?

How many Italian soldiers had to be burnt or blown out of their foxholes rather than surrender after the situation became hopeless?

As for mass genocide...have you heard of Nanking?

btw- I've checked the history books and never heard of any uprising by the japanese population to stop the war. If you check you might find it was Hirohito who ordered the Surrender- he was the only person with the authority to do so.

You are assuming that my reply was directly to you Large - it wasn't. Was an open question to a few comments made by many. Do I have to go and look up all that stuff now? I don't pretend to know everything even though I am a women and we are always right (joke) It was a long time since I was at school and yeah, I can't pull facts out of thin air like some can. I concur, I could be wrong. There you go, it's in writing, a woman said she (could) be wrong.

Yeah, my grandad's story isn't unusual. Oz and USA are still considered new countries. Unless you're native, you are all immigrants over there. But Hari-kari is a Japanese honour suicide ... hahahahahaha know what you mean. That's one fucked up part of the worlds history. Nanking - there are no words. Jap civilians didn't do it - the Jap army did. And yeah, the bloke in charge signed the treaty but his country was not supporting him. Japanese warriors have always been ruthless - but what happened at Nanking was a derranged bunch of animals let loose on innocent people on the commanders instructions.

I'm running outta steam... gotta go play with my bike before I become a full time keyboard warrior. Good thread. Great debate. Still respect and like all of you inspite of any views I may not have agreed with. I still blame HOS. Gitzy, my norks not good enough for that boobie break then?

Aw you looked it up to prove I was naive and wrong lol thanks. Could be he was reading a typo? I just had to look it up (cos I'm thick) and there are 50, I thought there were 52. He must have meant 47 states cos he said his crew wouldn't let him got to the other 3. Plus the laughter suggests that they would have said that to him and he corrected himself later in the clip - if it lasted more than 24 seconds.

HOS my bike is on the stands, waiting for the front end to be taken off (by me) and then I'm getting out the anglegrinder and sorting out them kin awful stoplocks and changing the forks for the ones I got to replace the dodgy ones. I got as far as the shed and then got a couple of epic phonecalls. Although some quality time cutting up the bike with the angle grinder would be thearputic, it's nearly 10pm and I'll save that 'piss off the neighbours' session for when I start the ubber loud zorst up outside their windows at silly o'clock in the morning.

And these are exactly the type of gaffes that the liberal media pounced upon every time that Bush said something wrong. Unfortunately for him there weren't people prepared to give him the benefit of doubt over everything he did, unlike what appears to be happening with the current PC president...

Some gold:

quote:

Last May, he claimed that tornadoes in Kansas killed a whopping 10,000 people: “In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died — an entire town destroyed.” The actual death toll: 12.

Last week, in front of a roaring Sioux Falls, S.D., audience, Obama exulted: “Thank you, Sioux City. ... I said it wrong. I’ve been in Iowa for too long. I’m sorry.”

Explaining last week why he was trailing Hillary Clinton in Kentucky, Obama again botched basic geography: “Sen. Clinton, I think, is much better known, coming from a nearby state of Arkansas. So it’s not surprising that she would have an advantage in some of those states in the middle.” On what map is Arkansas closer to Kentucky than Illinois?

Obama has as much trouble with numbers as he has with maps. Last March, on the anniversary of the Bloody Sunday march in Selma, Ala., he claimed his parents united as a direct result of the civil rights movement: “There was something stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Ala., because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. So they got together and Barack Obama Jr. was born.”

Obama was born in 1961. The Selma march took place in 1965. His spokesman, Bill Burton, later explained that Obama was “speaking metaphorically about the civil-rights movement as a whole.”

Earlier this month in Cape Girardeau, Mo., Obama showed off his knowledge of the war in Afghanistan by homing in on a lack of translators: “We only have a certain number of them, and if they are all in Iraq, then it’s harder for us to use them in Afghanistan.” The real reason it’s “harder for us to use them” in Afghanistan: Iraqis speak Arabic or Kurdish. The Afghanis speak Pashto, Farsi, or other non-Arabic languages.

Over the weekend in Oregon, Obama pleaded ignorance of the decades-old, multibillion-dollar massive Hanford nuclear-waste cleanup: “Here’s something that you will rarely hear from a politician, and that is that I’m not familiar with the Hanford, uuuuhh, site, so I don’t know exactly what’s going on there. (Applause.) Now, having said that, I promise you I’ll learn about it by the time I leave here on the ride back to the airport.”

I assume on that ride, a staffer reminded him that he’s voted on at least one defense-authorization bill that addressed the “costs, schedules, and technical issues” dealing with the nation’s most contaminated nuclear-waste site.

Last March, the Chicago Tribune reported this little-noticed nugget about a fake autobiographical detail in Obama’s Dreams from My Father: “Then, there’s the copy of Life magazine that Obama presents as his racial awakening at age 9. In it, he wrote, was an article and two accompanying photographs of an African-American man physically and mentally scarred by his efforts to lighten his skin. In fact, the Life article and the photographs don’t exist, say the magazine’s own historians.”

And in perhaps the most seriously troubling set of gaffes of them all, Obama told a Portland crowd over the weekend that Iran doesn’t “pose a serious threat to us” — cluelessly arguing that “tiny countries” with small defense budgets can’t do us harm — and then promptly flip-flopped the next day, claiming, “I’ve made it clear for years that the threat from Iran is grave.”
