thanks boys , well chuffed i can tell you so far only cost me $1200
$850 for the lathe and tooling plus some stock
$250 for the 4 hp 240v motor
and 2 x cartons for my mate pommy john to put the tender in for me
all up it should be under $1500 by the time i put in a 240 volt
coolent pump and light.
they made these fuckers for over 30 yrs i think and i have seen the
asain copy still for sale ($22000 new) so parts easy and soild as
they do really cut nice and the finer work is easer on them as well
mind u i wouldnt go any bigger for small stuff, haveing said that
they only have a 55 mm spindal bore so they really not that big just soild...
all i have 2 do now is find a mill for the same type deal lol
this is the box of tooling they gave me as well plus 10lts soilabale oil

like i said im really chuffed over this one
been waiting 2 find the right machine for the right price for more than a long time
for that price i would have been very happy with a asain machine but at that price would have been a
basic model. for what im going 2 be doing i would have used a machine that i didnt like
so happy 2 have one that i really like useing, every thing falls 2 hand and its easy 2 change gears and feeds
prob just use the dail when useing the 3 jaw , new asain copy 3 jaw around the 650 mark but for home
it wont matter

that is one kick ass lathe and for that sort of coin your laughing..
good stuff dude ;)
would love to learn how to use one of those....
they are an exeelent lathe those colchesters, we had one the same as you got there at work as well as half a dozen newer ones and by far that was my prefered lathe

noz they arnt hard to use only thing 2 learn is to control yr fear
as u work them and 2nd dont work with out fear cause they will ripp parts of u
with out blinking lol if that makes any seance...
im the same muz used newer ones but allways prefered our one of these when i was a fitter (plumber now lol)
If someone trained me to use one, I'd have a go. Don't know if I'd be any good but I'd give it a go

lathe rules 101
keep your bits out of the spinning bit
dont ware lose clothing
where eye protection
and the chucks live on the head stock
AND WHEN THERE NOT ON THERE THEY NEVER LEAVE YOUR HAND untill you put them back pretty simple really LOL
