The ship I'm going to is in Hawaii as I type, it isn't a warship per se but it will do me. It's Kanimbla which is amphibious and what I was after because I want more amphib under my belt so that I can apply to go to the new LHDs because they are going to be fucking awesome.

So was the HMS Nottingham.

LOL Dan, I did the crane work on Nottingham, I tell you what I will for the remainder of my days think about what an awesome job the sailors on that ship did keeping it afloat, they used close to a KM of shoring which is the timber we use to hold hatches shut and hold boxes on holes etc to stop flooding. One of the holes in the hull I could walk through without ducking and I'm 6'2".

I believe it went as far as the nearest Gold Coast thai/gook brothel where it grounded again until it was lifted/the stokers had blown their bonus.

After that it was loaded on a garbage boatskip asnd taken home to blighty

JackTar

They didn't sail it at all, that just kept it afloat, they brought a floating dry dock ship the Swan over to get it to Garden Island where we did enough work on it to get it back to the UK.

Are there any hovercrafts tho.. cause they are totally bad ass. but at the same time rather pointless considering the only land you CAN ..navigate them on.. has to either be the beach or a footy field. A bloke I went to cadets with was on the Kanimbla I'm pretty sure, when everyone went over to liberate the shit out of Afghanistan
